Trainspotting 2 - The worst toilet in Scotland returns

The gang’s all back. Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle. Based on the sequel book Porno by Irvine Welsh. Directed by Danny Boyle.

January 27th, 2017 in the UK. Feb 3rd, 2017 in the US.

The T2 is a little unnecessary, but otherwise can’t wait.

It’s kinda weird, but I watched Our Kind of Traitor this past weekend. It’s based on a John LeCarre novel about a British couple getting mixed up with Russian mobsters and MI-6, and it stars Ewan McGregor. But early on, there’s a close up of Ewan’s face, and I’m totally thinking, “Holy shit, when did Renton get middle-aged?”

Two days later…

Kelly MacDonald or GTFO.

I re-read both Trainspotting and Porno recently, and I’m curious as to how faithful they’ll be to the book, as Renton isn’t really the protagonist of Porno (Sick Boy and a new female character [who is uncast? unannounced? i haven’t read anything on her] probably have the most POV chapters). I absolutely adore Trainspotting the novel and film, though. I thought Porno was only good not great, but I would love to see these characters again played by these actors. They sidestepped some of Sick Boy’s less favorable moments in the first film - it will be very hard to make him sympathetic if they follow any of the plot from Porno. He’s just such a shit throughout the entire thing.

I’m excited, but wary at the same time.

Trailer. NSFW (brief nudity)

Somebody was bound to use Wolf Alice’s Silk in a movie or TV show or trailer, and it was Danny Fucking Boyle. That song is goddamn tremendous.

The trailer using Born Slippy by Underworld again reminded me that I haven’t listened to my Underworld Albums in years. I need to find those in my CD collection and rip them to disc. Or find them on Spotify I suppose. I’m still not used to the streaming way of living.

78% Critics Consensus: T2 Trainspotting adds an intoxicating, emotionally resonant postscript to its classic predecessor, even without fully recapturing the original’s fresh, subversive thrill.

I shall add this to the backlog.
