I had absolutely no idea there was a NES version. And it has absolutely nothing in common with the computer ones! Different animations, gameplay, levels, musics, graphics. Those were weird times.
My shot was from the emulated CPC version. Here is a longplay of it, although the guy is using a terrible emulator or horrible settings, as the sound is a total mess - which is sad, because Jonathan Dunn’s soundtracks are always awesome.
As for the new snap, I’ll just guess Tropico, convinced this isn’t it.

Constructor?

Jagged Alliance?

Once of the Emergency games? Like, Emergency… 2?

The NES one looks a lot more like Double Dragon. I was going to choose NES GAME X for my frame, thinking it would be famous enough that you’d all know it, but looking it up the NTSC version was some terrible side scrolling shoot 'em up, whereas the Japan and PAL version was the amazing top-down shooter version I know.

I was going to say CPC, but I thought CPC had a higher colour palette and so didn’t have to rely on dithering so much. A quick google shows a weird mix of games, some seeming to only using 4 colours and some much more, so I’m confused now.

Wow! This is amazing. The Emergency series is once of my favourite series, even though it’s always a terrible ratio of promise:disappointment. I spent ages trying to choose a good frame for Emergency 1: Fighters for Life, but they all looked too distinct. I felt like, if you’d played Emergency, you’d get the frame straight away.

So I chose another game. This isn’t Emergency. Close though! :)

(Infact @CraigM is the odd one out. I even thought about doing Constructor. It’s such a weird coincidence that out of the 4 or so games I considered, 2 have been mentioned…)

Keep the guesses coming! Photo-realistic isometric was a hot trend in the late 90s. It could be anything!

Oh man, I remember LOVING this game as a kid. Thanks for the memories :-D

I think it’s a little too clear, but that isn’t Fallout 1, is it?

If it is I totally should have gotten that.

Also: Consider me a member of the MAKE IT STOP WITH THE HORIZONTAL LINES-club :)

Postal? Maybe even the new Redux version?

Wow. I’d always assumed Postal was a FPS, as 2 and 3 were. But Postal 1 looks pretty cool. I might have to find time to play it!

Here’s a frame that I don’t think will help anyone:

Fallout 2?

Police Quest: SWAT

That’d be the (really, really cool) ZX Spectrum version.
I just checked and there was also a C64 version, which seems to have (yet again!) nothing in common with the CPC/ZX one. Talk about confusing.

Anyway, Freight Tycoon?

Hmm… Police Quest: SWAT was a high-quality, if not tedious, cinematic first-person adventure game thing, not an isometric RTS like its marvellous sequel…

I’ll assume your 2 was stolen at gunpoint by a terrorist cell, as no one could surely mistake SWAT1, 3, or 4 for SWAT 2 ;)

BONUS SHOTS:

The problem with those screenshots is that they look too much like SWAT2 and not enough like Constructor, Fallout or other such games :) The top one is the best as it has the caption “what part of LAPD don’t you understand, punk” being said by one of the SWAT officers. I don’t remember that being in the game, so that might be a mod.

Is that the same series than the later FPS SWAT series?
I had no idea it had begun as a Police Quest spinoff, if that is the case.

Yes, that is totally what happened, they demanded to know who number 2 worked for.

I’ll take the comment as a blessing to carry on the frame game. This one might be a challenge to our North American viewers…

Uhr… Lords of Magic?

Yep! They dropped the "Police Quest: " prefix with SWAT 3. And then SWAT itself had spin-offs… edit: You could even buy packs containing Police Quest and SWAT games! I think Sonny Bonds from the PQ games is one of the trainers in PQ:SWAT, and possibly one of the little faces in PQ:SWAT2.

As for the new frame: I recognise it but can’t place a name. It looks like Dark Crystal: The Game or something. (I made that title up)

I had actually never even seen a screen of the SWAT games prior to the 3rd one. What is GOG doing when we need them? XD

As for a guess, I’ll bet on the ultra-blur too, and say Commander Blood.

Providing them to you for the low, low price of $9.99.

(SWAT1 is pretty interesting. It’s mainly about slicing-the-pie, shooting FVM grannies, and getting told off by your superior officer. SWAT2 is a great game, though I remember it was pretty played by bugs. I rate it was one the best SWAT/police ‘strategy’ game, even including things like Doorkickers etc. Infact it’s one of the best squad-level RTS games… though I haven’t played it in 10 years so it might be terrible. It’s fills the same void Jagged Alliance 2 or Syndicate fills in my gaming-heart. )

Well, that’s awkward… I’ll blame my miss on the omission of any links from the SWAT 3 page. I’ll check them out: referencing Doorkickers is putting SWAT 2 under a lot of pressure though! Thanks!
