Ooh. Cool guess, but no.

This looks a bit too detailed to be Magic Sword.

Yeah the detail is throwing me off … Castle of Dragon?

La Mulana

Black Tiger?

Excellent guesses, but nope.

The Mickey Mouse platformer?

Pod, there’s like 10 of those. Okay, maybe not 10, but several. Anyway, it’s not any of them. Heh.

Shovel Knight

Cadash, maybe?

Pretty sure I’m wrong. I have a much better guess for next time but I’m blanking on the name.

Blades of Vengeance?

I’ll keep on playing the “it’s not” game by adding “it’s not Valkyrie Profile” to the list.

Let’s say the first one.

As for the new image: Gods 2. (Did they make a Gods 2?)

We have a winner! A game that I only discovered recently on the Megadrive/Genesis and has quickly become a favorite of mine.

I knew this was something of an obscure game. So I chose to take a screenshot from a location early in the game that anyone who has put significant time into it should recognize. This is from the hidden bonus/cheat/whatever area at the end of the first level that most people would not know is there upon first playing. Where you can get powerups and also warp (through the doors) to different levels of the game. In my opinion, it’s nearly impossible to get far into the game without the items there. When I’d play, I’d get what I could, then go to level 2, and play through from there. The items don’t make the game easy, but do definitely make things a little more forgiving in the early game. If any of you are into difficult side-scrollers in the vein of Rygar or more recently Volgarr the Viking (or several of the guesses for this image) you should give it a shot. The genre is kind of the Dark Souls of the 8bit and 16bit eras.

I also chose the girl, since most people tend to play her (I prefer the old man wizard, myself).

Another game to revisit, maybe Sega will take hints from Nintendo and release classic consoles :D

The game continues:

Disney’s magical quest.

That’s not Chivalry, is it? Too hi-res, probably.

Advance Wars?

Nope, have a frame:
