So, Christmas plus a stomach flu equals missed days in the frame game. Sorry.
FYI:
No it is not. :) I would like to make a point of this again:
Arrr me matey, be it Uncharted Waters per chance?

It does have a bit of that Koei look to it, doesn’t it?
Aye! The NES version. As I kept working the image for this game, it dawned on me. I played the SNES version and after I looked that up, I was all, “Whaaaa? My memory fails me, because THIS surely is what I played when I was younger!”

Wow I had no idea that game came out on NES. I only ever played it on the 16-bit consoles.
Fun image stuff below
Original image:

Resized with Bicubic, which is the “best quality” version in Paint.NET:
Resized with Nearest Neighbor:
My image processing background had me suspecting NN would do better than bicubic for this super chunky old pixelated stuff. And I think I was right, even if an old CRT TV might have looked more like bicubic. :P
And here’s how you might remember it if you played it on the SNES (as I did, doh!):

I’ll stick to the rich kid’s version :
Was that game composed by Yoko Kanno as well? I cannot remember.
That’s one short list of credits!
I love the early Koei game soundtracks so much…
… was there ever an effort for a game music forum game?

I’ll be terrible at it, but I definitely want it.

Problem is creating and hosting the files, as well as editing them. Any schlub can open paint and put some black bars around the image (hi, it’s me). Cutting up songs takes software that not everyone will have, or know how to use.
A shared soundcloud account would be one way for the hosting. As for editing, are there any online tools available?
Frame 1. Since a single pixel is often enough around here, I’ll keep the first frame light ;)

Mule? One of the hundreds of versions? I guess the name’s technically “M.U.L.E.”
I must confess I didn’t think about it and would honestly have no idea how to do it (I learned about layers having accidently guessed right a first time here!).
Theorically it sounded cool, though!
Curious Expedition for the new one?

It’s a cool idea, but from a techinical perspective I imagine it would be… infeasible.
