2017 was the first year that qt3 switched software to forums.quartertothree.com in its entirety. No teething pains (well, less teething pains, anyway) and more about the nitty gritty of usage.
Let’s see what 2017 looks like like via the users page, year range which reflects Jan 1 2017 → Jan 1 2018.

I’d say we could use a bit more new topics here in general. So if you’re ever thinking about maybe creating a new topic, take a page from the book of @telefrog and go for it!

As a point of reference, assuming you visited every single day in the year, 1000 posts would be 2.74 posts per day. So @Timex posted a whopping 17.5 posts per day, on average.

This is a measure of how many distinct conversation topics you entered in 2017. Considering there were maybe 1,000 brand new topics for the whole of 2017 to top this list like @lockerk you’d need to visit some of the (massive) qt3 topic backlog dating from 2002 onward.

Now “read” in this context doesn’t mean read for a long time necessarily, it’s a boolean flag indicating the post was on their screen. It could have been whizzing by their screen at 10 feet per second, but it did appear on their screen for a moment, however brief. The same math applies, at 365 days this means @JAH had a thousand posts a day on his screen, on average.
Days visited
There are too many people to list here, so I’ll summarize: how many days did people visit in 2017?

Nice, a bunch of addicts. All told there are probably ~250 people who missed less than a week visiting qt3 in the whole of 2017.
I was mystified by my “read posts” total, and then I realized it’s because I regularly land in the middle of a topic, and then navigate by spinning my scroll wheel, going “wheeeeee!”
once you are in a topic, press ? to discover keyboard shortcuts to jump to bottom end, top home, or any arbitrary post number #.
you can click or tap on the start or end dates in the vertical timeline to jump to the … wait for it … start or end of the topic. This also works on mobile, but requires an extra tap to expand the timeline.
you can also click or tap the topic title to jump to the top of it any time
Well crap, now people know how much time I spend lurking on this site. A good chunk of those were trying to mark things as read during the migration but I’ll try and pop into each new topic and read the first post or three to see if I want to keep following.
I find it interesting how few of the posters in the “most posts read” category I’ve actually heard of. I guess it’s not surprising that the lurkers are the ones who have the most time to read posts.
