Here’s hoping we get a good one to take down Comstock.

And the three guys running for the R nom for Senate in Virginia must make Kaine feel like he hit the lotto.

Oh, and this is neat, though I’m not sure it belongs in this thread: today Maine becomes the first testbed for ranked voting state-wide (I know that cities and communities like SF have done it on a local level).

Will be interesting to see how it plays out, what the reaction is from voters, and how this gets analyzed. Important primary too, since it’s to replace Ted LePage, who is term limited out and apparently unable to find a way to have himself declared dictator for life in Maine.

I think you mean Paul LePage?

As governor he has made controversial remarks regarding abortion, the LGBTQ community, racial minorities, the death penalty, voting rights, campaign financing, the government and the environment that has sparked widespread national criticism including calls for impeachment.

As of April 2018, LePage had an approval rate of 41% in Maine, and his disapproval rate of 53% was tied for fourth-highest of all current governors.[1]

#VA10 represent! My son asked me who we should vote for, I told him I had no clue. Is there a consensus as to the best candidate to defeat Comstock?

Yeah, those guys are fuuuuuucked up.

Ha! Him too. Yes, Paul LePage.

To be fair, you are talking about a human bowling jacket.*

Not really… there are six contenders and I think four of them could take Comstock down. I like Dan Helmer, Linsey Stover and Jennifer Wexton.

Both parties are the same.

I’m very glad to see the DNC making these progressive moves. It’ll make it a lot easier to vote for them in 2018/20. I really hope you’re right that they’ll go all in on legalization and single payer.

I’m dangerously close to becoming a single-issue voter on climate change (well, that and, y’know, preserving democracy in our own country).

Party A: Climate change is a problem, we don’t all agree on the details, but the science is in, and we had better come up with some solutions.

Party B: No climate change! You’re the climate change! Here’s a snowball! Chinese hoax! Al Gore uses too much electricity! Bring back coal! Let’s go back to the fucking era of Dick Van Dyke Chimney Sweeps! MAGA! Step In Time! Chim chim cheroo!

I don’t understand how anyone other than an oil executive* with no conscience could be persuaded by Party B’s take. Apparently trolling the libs is more important than keeping the earth habitable. Oh yeah, Jesus is coming in the next 20 years anyway, right?

*and why oil companies aren’t all-in on renewable energy is beyond me, as surely they would want to corner the market on future energy technologies. Or is their time horizon limited to quarterly estimates and such?

LOL and hahaha.

That might have been what they were interested in decades ago, when they had to work to get their giant oil companies going. But now? These yachts aren’t going to buy themselves, you know.

Clearly you don’t get it. God made the world full of good things for man to use, and the earth and its resources are renewed for our exploitation continually according to His plan. What kind of heresy do you adhere to which claims that mere mankind can alter the climate or should refuse the bounty of the Eternal plans?

Seems about par for the course for a Republican these days. Anything that makes an election more fair and equitable for the people is “horrific.”

LePage told the news outlet that the newly installed voting system is "the most horrific thing in the world” and that he “probably” wouldn’t certify the results. He said he’d instead let the courts decide.

To put it this way - i’m in a running email conversation with my father who works in the oil business and who doesn’t believe in climate change and also doesn’t believe that California is actually exporting electricity and thinks that this doesn’t make sense and has to be biased reporting because he remembers California is a basket case and that it costs 50x per kilowatt for solar and articles that say otherwise are lying.

I think the executives have drunk the cool aid.

Comstock going DOWN!
