Day just got a little better. Marist/NBC numbers out early.

And this blurb on Heller (R-NV)

We’re coming for you, Barbara!

Yeah when you said earlier that you expected Florida to be bad, I was very much hoping you were wrong. Nelson is well liked in this state and I didn’t/don’t expect our controversial governor to beat him. In fact, I doubt Skeletor would have won his reelection 4 years ago if it wasn’t for his spending shit tons of money, which is less effective for Senate (since it’s easier for the competition to build a war chest since it’s national).

For the governor’s race though, I expect Putnam ( R) to win because he’s well known and generally liked, even if I think his NRA bluster is particularly galling.

Primaries tonight all over, and the most stunning result of all is the NY-14 primary. Joe Crowley, a 10-term Democratic incumbent is getting absolute mopped by a 28-year-old member of the DSA in that primary (it’s a district covering parts of Queens and The Bronx.) I mean, he’s getting smoked.

Two takeaways: the Andrew Cuomo-Cynthia Nixon primary fight in September isn’t just a sideshow news story anymore. Andy’s gotta be sweating right now.

Also: if you wanted the clearest sign possible that there’s no room in the House leadership for Nancy Pelosi if the Dems flip control in November, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez whipping Joe Crowley tonight is that sign in big red letters.

Crowley ran an aloof, dismissive campaign that was condescending and bordered on paternalistic. And just like that, he’s done.

Any ideas on who would take Nancy’s place?

I mean, Matt Fuller thinks this is great for Nancy, since Crowley was one of the guys vying for her job in November. And he covers Congress daily as well as anyone in the country. So…maybe it’s not such bad news for her.

But man, it’s hard to not see this a little bit in terms of David Brat knocking off Eric Cantor back in 2014. Cantor obviously a much higher profile than Crowley, but still. It just seems like being a longtime leader of the party apparatus is going to be too much of a liability for Pelosi to overcome the next time the Democrats vote on leadership.

David Beard, who is also very smart and knows this stuff better than me, with a wiser view than mine:

It’s gonna be a bad scene if the Democrats start doing what the GOP did for the past decade, where it’s all about defending yourself against attacks from the more extreme branch of your own party in primaries.

I am not eager to have a left wing version of the freedom caucus.

And also:

(Plus…did OK in the 2016 national election…)

I mean that’s kind of the Bernie wing of the party.

Hey, I’m just speaking from what I saw happen to the party whose primaries i voted in, where they got progressively more stupid.

And while I have Trump as much as anyone, the hatred of Obama played a big role in pushing the GOP off the cliff. They fucking lost their minds when Obama won.

In fairness, Trump is so infinitely worse that Obama that on some level losing your mind is warranted… But I am still afraid of seeing both parties just rush to the fringes, due to how primaries generally work.

I need to stop using the invisible pixels.

That seems classy (not being sarcastic!). Should be cut and pasted by every losing Dem in a primary.

Jared Polis wins the Democrats primary for Colorado Governor.

Could be interesting come November. Colorado leans blue, but likes moderate Dems for statewide spots…Polis already has the label as out-of-touch Boulder liberal. Most years that would worry me… But his opponent will be Walker Stapleton, an old guard Republican who has hitched his ride to Trump… And Colorado doesn’t care for Trump AT ALL… So we shall see

Nope, totally agree. Joe taking it like a pro.

That’s… not what that song is about.

No, but it’s still a nice gesture.
