it was a good ad. I don’t think Queens and Bronx is as liberal as Berkeley/Oakland but it seems to me that platform she is running on is quite appropriate for that area. The concerns of Bronx are far different than those of Manhattan, and different type of Democrat is needed. For years , Berkeley and parts of Oakland was represented by Ron Dellums, an African-American socialist. I disagreed with pretty much all of his policies, but up until he started getting corrupted by the system, I think he represented the district well.
To put a finer point on it, the Queens section of Cortez’s district had once been the very same neighborhood where Archie Bunker lived in All In The Family. In the last 10 years or so, it’s been getting incredibly ethnically diverse and very much younger. It is now a district where whites are a minority, and where a huge percentage of the population is either first or second generation immigrants. Having a party machine old white guy represent it was starting to feel like a relic of some by-gone time.
It’s everything my father fears: immigrants and minorities moving in, taking over, and pushing him out. At least he isn’t afraid of women.

At least it’s fairly unlikely the Dems will get to this point:
I saw that on CNN this morning. So great!

I’m kinda starting to crush on her a little bit.

Yeah, I don’t see anything that’s overtly EVIL about the Dems at this point. I mainly fear that they’ll just get dominated by the far left that, while not evil, is not exactly practical.
And given that the GOP no longer has any credibility in that realm at all, we’ll be left with a government that does some stupid stuff.
I fear we’ll no longer have anyone representing fiscal conservatism.

Given recent history, the Democrats actually do fairly well on that end.
Then the GOP gets elected and makes a giant deficit. And bigger than the last guy’s! With laser beams!
And neither party will ever shrink it, so that’s just a pipe dream anyway. They just shift the money into different areas.
Just make new money, the super dollar. Convert all debt to super dollars, suddenly it’s not so bad!
Money is all make believe anyway so who gives a shit. The world has $59 trillion in debt. Money is an abstraction to facilitate trade and services. The reality is we can do whatever the fuck we want if we set our minds to it, the only limit is human effort and ingenuity, and the availability of real resources (not fake dollars).
Also, bring on the Bernie-crats. We need people who will fight back. Take a look at what happened with net neutrality in CA. AT&T bribed all the Democrats, and now it’s dead. This is the reason we can’t get universal health coverage, action on climate change, and so on, because of Democrats that accept bribes to vote like Republicans.

I’m pretty sure that’s Trump’s actual plan to deal with it.
After ignoring it completely anyway.
I live in this district! I’m trying to google where this Archie Bunker lived.
If it’s Corona, that’s mostly Dominicans now. If it’s Jackson Heights, that used to be lots of Italians/Irish/Poles but in the 90s mostly Colombians/Ecuadorians. There’s Chinese people on the border of Elmhurst, and African Americans by Astoria Blvd. There’s Indian businesses by Roosevelt Av. College Point had a lot of working class whites including Greeks/Italians. They started to move out, and Chinese people move in (pattern seems to replicate in much of New York).
The Western end of the district is Sunnyside which is a pleasant neighborhood with good access to the subway. It was found to be most ethnically diverse a couple of years ago (if you count country of origin) Young hipsters been moving in to Sunnyside because neighboring Astoria/LIC is full (people hate to live in Queens, but the western end is convenient because it’s closer to Manhattan.
I found out recently that the actor had very different political beliefs from Archie, but he played them so well and sincerely.
It reminds me of Ron Swanson the character versus Nick Offerman.
Point of nitpickery: if you’re going to refer to the candidate that beat Crowley by one last name, use Ocasio and not Cortez. The tradition in Spanish speaking countries is to sometimes use both the father’s and the mother’s surnames in that order. Note that the website is Ocasio2018 or something.
