i agree. One benefit of trump being mentally ill is he does not realise his weekly attacks on the majority of Americans simply fire up Democrats to vote, its been diminishing returns on Republicans for a long time.
I disagree a little. I think there are a lot of Democrats out there who are REALLY angry, and very energized, and they’re looking for any opportunity to go vote against anything Trumpish. You wanna have a special election for assistant dog catcher next Thursday? Does one of the guys running have a picture of himself in a MAGA hat? Democrats will show up this cycle to vote in that.
And that might be an issue in stronger red districts. Democratic engagement/enthusiasm/energy is already at saturation.
Back on Earth Prime, President Clinton enjoys a small 51/52 seat majority in the Senate.
Dems were poling to pick up a couple of seats in 2016.
What I really love is how much better Democratic candidates are this time around. For the few people that aren’t partisans, you can at least give them the best possible candidate.
What does the data show for turnout in these special elections vs 2016 and 2014? If Dem turnout is around the 2016 levels, then you might be right about saturation and we will need evidence that Dems are expanding the electorate in November if they are going to maintain their current margins in specials. Conversely, if there is still a cushion, then we know there are voters in this areas who can still be motivated in November. Same goes for the Republican side, of course…
They don’t have a choice. Everyone who hates Trump, by extension, also hates the GoP who embraced Trumpism. To those people any Republican is a non-starter, no matter if they support Trump or not.
For the MAGA crowd, however, anyone speaking out against dear leader is also a non-starter. Running as a Trumpist is thus the only way they can pull in a significant number of votes.
The choice is you either hitch your ride to Trump and stay relevant, or you abandon the entire thing without looking back. There’s no middle ground.
Agreed. I am an Independent. I’ve spent 30 years voting for whomever I thought was the best person for the position based on their experience level, previous history and basic understanding of and alignment with my needs/desires from the position they would be holding.
This will be the first election I’ve ever voted straight down a party line, regardless of who appears on that line, because I have reached maximum FUCK REPUBLICANS level since November, 2016. I’m sure that somewhere hiding in broom closets in the bowels of the GOP there are a handful of decent men and women who would love to run on their fiscally conservative ideals and moderate social stances and to reach across the isle and truly do something good for all Americans. I feel for those people, I really do, but they kept their mouths shut when their party decided to go all crazytown, and now they can fucking rot, forever tainted by their party affiliation.
My hope is that the blue wave gets bolstered by a bunch of people like me, people who were never solidly dependable Democrat voters in the past, but wildcards. Wildcards who are now sick to death of the GOP and Trump bullshit and are willing to come out and vote “D” all the way down to put an end to it. Thankfully most of the people on that “D” line seem to be decent candidates thus far…though it’s hard NOT to appear decent given the competition these days…
Pod Save America has an interview with Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. Obviously a softball interviewer, but still I was impressed. Worth a listen.
It starts at the 53 minute mark.

Except, of course, get a real job :)
“What if they threw a crazy GOP primary and nobody came?”
If they really cared about this country, they would run on the GOP ticket against Trump, and help burn away GOP money and resources in the primary.
I still suspect he doesn’t want to be President (King, on the other hand…) and he’s subconsciously sabotaging himself.
I dont think your theory is crazy. I mean… it kinda fits… hmm…

Good grief.
At this point, anyone in leadership needs an extensive background check and a twitter scrub. Or, we should just pick more women.
The accusations:
My name is Austin Monahan and I am writing this letter on behalf of me and my brother.
My brother and I watched our mom come out of pure hell after getting out of her relationship with Keith Ellison. For several months we knew something wasn’t right and couldn’t figure it out. When we asked our mom if everything was ok, she told us she was dealing with some stress and would be ok.
In the middle of 2017, I was using my moms computer trying to download something and I clicked on a file, I found over 100 text and twitters messages and video almost 2 min long that showed Keith Ellison dragging my mama off the bed by her feet, screaming and calling her a “fcking bitch” and telling her to get the fck out of his house. The messages I found, were mixed with him consistently telling my mom he wanted her back, he missed her, he knew he f*cked up and we wished he could do things different, he would victim shaming, bully her, and threaten her if she went public. I text him and told him I know what you did to my mama and a few other things.
I’m not sure this – if the physical abuse ends at dragging someone out of bed by their feet – approaches criminal conduct. And yelling at a girlfriend/boyfriend isn’t news. That happens in relationships sometimes, sadly.
BUT…if the stuff about him bullying her to keep her quiet is true – and apparently there are texts and DMs to that effect – that’s where my patience ends.

Women have sex, and sometimes they’re not married, once in awhile they say no to sex too. Once that gets out 30% of the country will hate them, assuming they think the woman is attractive. They have a different list for the ones they don’t find attractive. And that’s before we find out that women are occasionally rude too.
We are, and at record numbers.
I’m… confused. I mean, assuming this crap happened, I hope Ellison goes down in flames. But the technical aspects of this make no sense. How is there a video of this happening? How did clicking on a file suddenly open all of this up?
