There’s a Washington Post article touting another Senate Judiciary Democrat as a possible 2020 contender: Amy Klobuchar.

My own impression from watching her during the hearing was extremely positive. But Minnesotans are basically honorary Canadians, so maybe that’s why I’m predisposed to liking the way she presented herself.

My Magic 8 Ball is predicting a Biden/Harris ticket in 2020. Ouija board too. And goat entrails.

Biden has a chance at the nomination. Not what I want, but he has a chance. But I don’t see much chance of a ticket of old white male + female. Entirely the wrong message IMO.

But she’s just show. She doesn’t actually really in some great extraction of truth.

A great example of this was her questioning about whether kavanaugh had talked to anyone in that law firm. She got in a fight with Kavanaugh because he was able to easily fall back into the fact that he didn’t know everyone in that lawfirm.

If she really wanted to establish some useful facts, she could easily have had a list of the people at the law firm she was interested in, and asked him whether he had talked to any of them about the subject. But she didn’t.

I genuinely don’t get the immense praise heaped upon Harris. I also don’t share the hated the far right has for her. She’s just a junior senator.

I realize that I’m not going to have the same perspective as many of you guys on the left, but some of the stuff she did as the AG of California, like fighting against federal supervision of their prison system, and saying they couldn’t release prisoners because it would cause the person system to lose a valuable labor pool (lolwut?) seems in direct opposition to stuff progressives believe.

I honestly don’t get the infatuation with Kamala Harris.

I’m not infatuated, but she’d be a good candidate. She’s got charisma, and she’s smart, and she knows how to make an impression. Comparing her to (say) Corey Booker, she’s far better as a candidate.

Her resume isn’t just show. She has a backbone and I’m happy with her performance.

What results?

I mean, her actual resume has stuff in it that… You probably don’t like?

I’d be happy with this.

I don’t get this. Please explain?

Joe Biden will be freaking 78 years old in 2020.

For fucks sake find someone else.

Are you saying that he’s too old? He seems pretty on the ball right now.

Yes, he’s too old.

Then we shall agree to disagree?

In the first election after the first female candidate lost, I don’t think the right move would be to put a 78-yr-old white man at the top of a ticket and pair him with a younger, more dynamic black woman. It’s bad optics and a bad message. Why is it the old white man at the top of the ticket? I don’t want to listen to that dividing debate for 6 months of the campaign, thank you very much.

(I also think he’s too old. I don’t want dementia in the White House, I think we’ve had enough.)

Right now, nobody should even be thinking about who might be running for President in 2020. If Democrats don’t win the election that’s about to happen, there probably won’t be a free 2020 election for any of them to win.

I mean other than her record as a prosecutor she’s great.

Her resume is a horrific nightmare if you start looking into it. Abuses of power all over the place.

I mean she’s better than Trump but so is nearly everyone.

Because we NEED to win. Like if we don’t America is over. I’m all for voting in a black woman in the near future, but right now I’ll settle for a boring old white dude so that we can have a country again. I realize that is a shitty viewpoint, but after 2016 my realpolitik is in overdrive. We’re in triage and I’m very wary of taking anything resembling a chance.

That said Biden is probably too old. But I’ll also probably take him over a Warren or Harris right now.

I’d love to read this cover letter.

What specific results has she achieved in her career that you like?

The love of Kamala Harris seems to be “she’s a fighter!” But that’s the same kind of bullshit that led to the tea party and Trump… A misguided desire for political combat rather than governance and compromise.

Take the final hours of the fiasco last week.

Harris walked out, saying she wouldn’t participate in such a farce.

Boring Chris Coons met with Flake and got a compromise on a week of FBI investigations.

“Backbone”, at the end of the day, isn’t what makes government work.

I mean I’ve posted stuff about her here before, so I assume that will also get ignored, but I’ll give it a go.

Edit: Now mind you I’d probably take her over 98% of Republicans regardless, but that’s more about Republicans than Harris.

Thank you. I, like ou, have issues with her past accomplishments as prosecutor. Do I think she is intelligent? Certainly. Would I vote for her over Trump? Oh god yes.

But she would not be my first choice for precisely the reasons you hint at.

NM, I’m out. Enjoy the oppo. Good luck with that.
