FOOT YOU CAN BELIEVE IN

I’d work for her election if she ran like I’ve not worked for a candidate since BO.

Looks like California is finally going to start punching our weight during primary season.

Three sentences on why you guys are all about Senator Duckworth, go!

She’s not Donald Trump. She seems to care about “the little guy” in a more sincere manner than Donald Trump. She’s not Donald Trump.

I’m not sure if that refers to Kamala Harris or not, but i think the DNC’s thinking regarding her is the following:

  • She is female (so all women will vote for her, with high turnout)
  • She is a minority/African American (so all African Americans and Minorities will vote for her, with high turnout)
  • She is younger (so all young people will vote for her, with high turnout)
  • She has less baggage/experience (so progressives will be less turned off by past questionable actions and the right will hate her less)

Glancing over her wiki, she does have some actions in her past as AG that progressives will not like. She supports Civil Forfeiture (sad face) and there are also some questions about her relationship with Mnuchin. Hopefully she can explain these, because they will come up and not only when talking to Republicans.

Really, I don’t feel there is enough known about her to say whether this coronation by the DNC was a good idea or not. The DNC is taking a huge risk that this will feel a lot like 2016, even if Kamala Harris does turn out to be a great candidate. With that said i am happy that the DNC did not take Hillary’s defeat as a message that a woman is not a viable candidate for the highest office in the land.

Are you talking about Harris, or Duckworth?

Duckworth carries a lot of the same things that Obama did. Midwest state, young, vivacious, minority (hell, there’d be birther yelling again, since she was born in Bangkok, daughter of a Marine father). Plus she adds being a wounded service veteran herself. She’s a liberal, but not as far to the left as a Sanders or some others. I think she’d make a great candidate. I mean hell, Bob Dole dedicated his biography to her! Suck on that, Republicans.

Oh I was thinking of Harris. Duckworth does seem like an appealing candidate. It does kind of seem like she one ups Kamala Harris in every way.

Although I must admit i don’t know a ton about her beyond her campaign ad, some talks she did against trump appointments and her political history. What I saw was positive though.

Although her not being born in the USA opens her up for the moronic birther attack which Trump’s base loves.

I would be HUGELY surprised if she is a candidate in 2020 though. You might even say… Bigly. I know things are still early, but there is a lot of money being moved around already.

I was also born a U.S. Citizen in Bangkok. My birth certificate is in Thai, with an English translation attached. If I ever ran for President, they’d have fun memeing that one. “Fortunately,” I am an avowed atheist, so I already have zero chance of holding any national elected office.

Is there a consensus on what ‘natural born citizen’ actually means? McCain was born abroad, wasn’t he? I have gone through periods of my life under the impression that my being born in Bangkok meant I couldn’t actually be president.

Both John McCain AND Ted Cruz – two recent serious Republican challengers for the White House – were born outside the country.

Just want to point out that Obama was born IN the United States so it’s not like the fucking GOP needs some sort of reason to stir up the birther shit again. Just the mere fact that she’s not white would be more than enough to get the fucktards to turn out in droves against her.

It’s also the dumbest fucking excuse to have a problem with a politician, and immediately informs all and sundry that the accuser is a fucking idiot that values where someone was born over the values they live.

Christ, I can’t stand today’s GOP. What a fucking clown show.

Looks like the geriatric contingent might very well be in play for 2020 - Biden, Sanders and even Jerry Brown.

There are some interesting young people on the list, but the old guard (Brown, Sanders, Biden) please no. Warren will be 71 which is border line too old.

White.

I mean Biden wouldn’t be the worst thing ever because he beats Trump at his own game by actually being the things Trump pretended to be as well as a good person and regular dude. Of course he’s also an industrial gaff machine who says stupid shit constantly, though apparently that doesn’t matter (or maybe it only matters for Democrats). He’s also old as sin, but so was McCain and that didn’t bother me other than picking a terrible VP and VP actually matters when you dropping dead is a real possibility. Biden/Harris could work? No idea.

I’d love to see some young blood. Duckworth with a few more years would be pretty promising. Warren, Sanders and the rest… eh… not so much. Not huge on Harris, but that’s my issues with things like civil forfeiture and her actions as California’s AG. And to get Trump out I think we’re safer with “old white dude” if I’m perfectly honest. Now if Trump doesn’t make it to 2020, I’m game for whatever.

The knock on Duckworth is that she isn’t the best speaker or most charismatic. That’s the only bad thing I’ve heard.

I see her as a badass fighter who is sufficiently progressive and electable.

I’m not too worried about a coronation in 2020- too much ego in the Dems for that, and the base would rebel. The main reason Hillary managed to win the primaries is she had the black church vote locked up due to Bill’s influences- that won her a ton of states and made it impossible for Bernie to catch up.

I could easily see myself voting for Duckworth, I’d happily vote for Cory Brooker over most Republican candidates.
Probably vote for Andrew Cumuo. I’d need to know more about Sen. Harris, Murphy, Gov. Patrick (although what I’ve seen I liked) and Mayor Garcetti. I won’t vote for Sen. Brown, Sen. Gillibrand , Sen. Kaine, any of the old folks, or any of the billionaires. In the case of the billionaires, I’d probably vote for any of them as Senator, or Governor, I just firmly believe the President isn’t an entry level position. I’d also like to see former Congressman Harold Ford run.

This assumes Trump gets primaried, and normal Republican like Rubio gets nominated. There is literally nobody the Democrats could run would I won’t vote for over Trump.

For the people on that list, I’d be most enthusiastic for Sherrod Brown, Murphy, Gillibrand or Garcetti. I’d really would rather not have anyone in their 70’s run - Democratic leadership badly needs an injection of youth I think.

As far as who would have broadest appeal, I have no idea. Oprah Winfrey probably heh.
