2018 Frame Game

So, yeah, it’s an action RPG. Combat is really tight, real time, and mostly focused on positioning, timing, and adaptation to enemies strengths and weaknesses. The game is presented as an MMO of sorts (sort of a game-within-a-game), and there’s lots of nods to MMO structure/culture and everything, but it is subverted and played straight in the best possible way. The 16-bit influence is also present in the whole thing, from the art style to the “feel” of combat and movement, which I suppose resemble the 2D Zelda games a lot, or maybe the Mana series. Not sure because I barely played those, but from what I’ve seen of them, it does have kind of the same “feel”? Kinda hard to explain, really.

As for the unlikely development platform, it’s because the game is implemented over HTML5. Yes, it could theoretically run on a browser. In fact, the demo actually does run on a recent enough browser, which is impressive to say the least. And - in the browser or not - it’s a joy to play.
