2018 Frame Game

@Left_Empty there is at least five different games there, you are definitely trolling us!

Actually, you are right: there are more than a single game in there.

It was Kuron/Kowloon Yomagakuenki, a puzzle, Wizardry style dungeon crawler, inside an episodic sound novel canvas, with a crafting game and a fake internet browser to keep you busy.
And FMVs thrown in. And a jazzy soundtrack performed for the most part by a live band.
And it also featured a fake NES Adventure/RPG for good measure.
The only thing it lacks is the obligatory awkward dating sim. The game is a contrarian.

It’s as awesome as it’s buggy. It got a second edition released, that fixed some of the issues, but introduced new ones — in my game, the business part of the crafting game was bugged and basically served no purpose, yielding zero rewards.

Hopefully @rhamorim will have time for a proper frame now :O

Haha, as if!

Kingdom Rush

Incorrectowerdefense!*

* I’m not saying the correct game is tower defense or that it’s not. I’m just emulating people in the movie frame game. ;)

It’s super familiar I hope it’s not a porn game…

The “Rank C” is so familiar…Advance Wars?

I was thinking the same thing. The color palette, the “Rank C” and all that. But it’s widescreen, and not the GBA’s version of widescreen, but rather 16:9. And I have no idea what that orange/red thing is. This is confusing me.

It’s not a porn game (well, that I know of), and here’s more of it…

Ah, I know what it is: I had thought there was an on-screen map, but it is part of the décor.

No guesses? Should I post a new frame or wait a little longer?

Looks kinda like Final Fantasy Tactics.
Or maybe it doesn’t. Been a few years since played it.

Definitely not, FFT was isometric.

It does seem distinctly Square though, the ‘flower’ and cliffs remind me of Mana series games.

So Senken Densetsu 3

No right guesses yet, so next frame inbound!

It’s been awhile, that isn’t Battle for Wesnoth is it?

I’ll take it then. It’s CROSSCODDDDD!!
Very nice red hering on the first one, between that “rank”, the capture that made it look like one of the flowers was some dialogue box corner, and the lamp area being an overlay map ;)

Hi! Lea! Hi!

It is CrossCode indeed, a 16-bit era inspired action RPG with modern sensibilities, great combat, and a very pretty and smooth implementation over an unlikely development platform. After a good while in Early Access, it finally came out for good last week, and it’s amazing. I’m having a fantastic time with it and I really wanted to post about it here to see if someone else would get interested. I certainly hope so!

Have fun with your next pick, @Left_Empty ! I suppose you’ll pick HuniePop or something… ;)

Could you elaborate a bit more about this? I had no idea the game was an RPG! Looks gorgeous :-D

They clearly played the Mana series, because from the style to the combat, I can clearly see the lineage.

Definitely updated, but certainly present.
