2020 Quarterlies! Vote for Qt3's Best Game of 2020: "Ok, let's get down to it, boppers!"

I’ll just throw an evil list:

  1. Immortals Fenyx Rising
I have only been able to play a few hours so far, but the more the dramatic progresses, the more I’m in love with the characterization. The game is filled with so many lovely details that echoes to my own expectations, and I won’t mention any as to not spoil them. Lovely game. Thank you again for the pointer, Roberto and Tom.
  2. Hyrule Warriors: The Age of Calamity
    It’s a fun brawling distraction. And it’s a 2020 pure title, yay!

Follows cheating entries, so I ranked them down:

  1. Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate
This having been my GOTY of 2015 or something, here goes! The Switch version is glorious now that it doesn’t destroy saves.
  2. One Finger Death Punch 2
Released this year on the Switch, and it’s probably the best joycon game.
  3. Streets of Rogue
Released on the Switch this year. Just a shameless plug to bug @Chappers the busy man.

My game of the year was Obra Dinn, but I’m one year late sadly.

Kicked out:
Synthetik: Ultimate: randomly crashes at the end of levels. No news of a patch. Ew.
Jets’n’Guns Gold 2: crashes during a later level on the Switch. Sniff.

Edit: Sorry @arrendek! Damn, both of those games titles are awful

Can you please fix your #2? The number formatting seems wrong and can you please please please fix the title? Thanks

Edit: Thanks!

Oooooooh, sneaking in a classic! Nice job!

  1. Half-Life: Alyx
I haven’t played a lot of it yet, but damn this is what I’d dream of VR being. It’s such a cool place to be a part of. It’s awesome of having games after all these years wow-ing me.

  2. Hades
Has great characters, good progression and gameplay. Gives me that, gotta get a little farther feeling. Different boons and weapons shakes it up enough to delay the game feeling repetitive.

  3. The Last of Us Part 2
I’m haven’t completed this yet, but I have put in quite a bit of time. It’s not Part I. It’s not as good as Part I. But it is still really good in some ways that are the same.

  4. The Room VR: A Dark Matter
Holy crap is this cool to play in VR. Yeah, it’s not as crisp looking as if I were playing on a monitor. To be standing in the environments at are really cool is awesome. It is the most excited I’ve gotten playing a game in a while. Most of the puzzles are good. They have a nice hint system that gradually reveals more info. Have I mentioned how cool it is to be in the environment? I was teleported onto a platform that was up in the air and I immediately bent my knees to stabilize myself so I wouldn’t fall off. It felt like I was really elevated.

  5. Immortals: Fenyx Rising
I binge played this while at the end of my Ubi+ subscription, so I did start to tire of it. But, It has the best exploration of an Ubi game after turning off some UI stuff. The banter is funny. The game play and puzzles are well done. Combat gets repetitive but it’s still decent.

Edit: Half Life Alyx just bumped of Gears Tactics at the deadline.

This closes tonight at midnight EST, 9pm PST everyone, so get your votes in if you haven’t already!

Can I include a 2020 game that I didn’t start playing until 2021?

Yes, of course.

Yes, it isn’t games you played in 2020 but games released in 2020.

Gotcha. I’d always limited it to 2020 games I’d played in 2020.

I prefer to limit it to games I haven’t played yet.

  1. Hades - Easy choice. Being a M+K guy I even developed controller skills with all the hours I spent.
  2. Wasteland 3 - Solid game, best RPG I’ve played in years. Perfect length and loved the scope of the game.
  3. Call Of The Sea - Pretty world, fun puzzles (except one).
  4. Monster Train - Grabbed me more than Slay the Spire

Just updated my list to add Half-Life Alyx to the top and bumped off of Gears Tactics.

Just FYI, I will likely not be able to post the results until late tonight, so I am extending the deadline until midnight Pacific / 3am Eastern.

  1. Hades - one of the best games ever, for all the reasons above. God Mode makes the mistake of not slowing the rate of progression, but the game does track every run where it was used for even one room, which is the bare minimum for what should be done in a roguelike (paging @tomchick)
  2. The Wonderful 101: Remastered - this game fascinates me the same way souls games do. Who knew you can make a sophisticated character action game where one of the core skills is precisely drawing basic shapes in real time with a thumb stick. So yeah, this game is not for very many people at all.
  3. Death Stranding
  4. Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War
  5. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

People who are still awake please help me find duplicates in this list of game votes:
