I really shouldn’t do this, it’s totally against the NDA I had to sign using one of my spare kidneys, but I do have some actual in-game footage that I captured from the pre-omega leapday build. This was one of the player starting weapons that was removed for being ‘too lame’.
This now holds the dubious record of the gif that took me longest to create - by about ~25 minutes.
Castles?? There was a game from forever ago that involved sieging castles that might have would have had a fire effect like that, but I’m not sure on UI.

Wait, you missed Castles? That’s a tragedy, that game was unbelievably great in its day. GOG has a pack with the 1st and 2nd games if you want to try to recapture the magic.
Castles is one of my favorites of all time. Simple by the standards of today’s builders, but that’s why I love it. I agree with vinraith: It’s worth grabbing on GOG.

I had dismissed it because I don’t like city builders, but who can resist such gorgeous little footmen!
It is mostly a building game, with periodic battles where you plop down your soldiers and then watch as they rout or are routed.
From the youtube videos, Castles seemed to be more about being a very bored looking king having to sit through trite audiences with various fops and other assorted riffraff. That gif was 400% speed as well because omigosh who has that sort of attention spa
anyway.
