Maybe we’ll see the return of zie and zer for the gender neutral ones (used to be the common ones in certain Usenet newsgroups–the forums of the time–waaaay back ca. 1990 or so, for any young-uns out there–any older folks here get into discussions on newsgroups back then, like comp.sys.ibm-pc.games or the Mac equivalent, or soc.singles?).
Yup comp.sys.ibm.pc.games and comp.sys.intel, aquariums, and several others, but I started back in 1982. So I guess this is my 40th anniversary of wasting time on message boards!

Right now R are ahead in 220 races, if that holds this will give McCarthy a huge 2-vote margin.
I’m sure Paul Ryan is having nightmares thinking about trying to be the speaker with 2 votes. Especially because those votes will come from Republicans, of whom many are certifiable crazy.
I predict that McCarthy is going to rue the day he wanted to become Speaker.
Nancy has talked about retiring, maybe she should cause the next year or two will be ugly in the House.

Yeah, it’s going to be nuts. For sure there will be debt limit shenanigans and of course all Republicans can agree on at least one thing: Hunter Biden must be impeached.
I doubt they can get 218 Republicans to agree on anything much less an impeachment, a budget, or lifting the debt ceiling.
I think a very small House majority will make it hard for the GOP to pull off debt ceiling extortion shenanigans. Even a couple of defections will kill the effort, and there are likely to be a handful of Rs in tight districts who won’t want to play.

Yeah I think if the house ends up only R+1 or R+2, it’s wildly different situation than R+10 or R+15. Maybe even up to R+5 ish.
On the one side you’ll have R infighting. And on the other side you’ll have Rs in Biden+20 districts that could be peeled away.
In the mid-1980s California Republicans capture the State Assembly. The Assembly speaker Willie Brown, a politician in the LBJ model. Got himself elected Speaker of the Assembly by bribing a couple of Republicans to vote for him. Thus become the only Speakers to hold the position while a member of by the minority party.
I give McCarthy less than 6 months before the coalition falls apart. Nancy is pretty damn good at her job, I wouldn’t be shocked to see a similar thing happen.
So do we know if the Jan 6th committee is fucked and Trump will get off scot free yet?
On the plus side for us Michiganders, it looks like all ballot proposals passed and Tudor Dixon lost to Big Gretch.
Yeah, McCarthy doesn’t strike me as the kind of strong, smart leader who can make a tiny majority pay off in this political environment. He’s going to struggle and probably fail, and there will be a leadership / Speaker struggle in the caucus.
The way things look, that runoff election in Georgia is going to be a battle zone. Again.

Here in Maryland, Wes Moore will become the state’s first Black governor, after a flaccid showing by Republican Dan Cox.
Weed will also be legal as of next July.
It is so great to wake up to such better news rhan one had feared. All is not perfect, if course, but the country is not completely insane either.
