20th Century Fox in talks to sell most of company to Disney

Shit’s about to get interesting.

So how much longer do we have until everything is owned by one giant corporation?

Yeah, that was my thought when I heard about the judge’s decision to allow the AT&T buyout. Now that we have a legal yes to vertical integration, we’re going to see it all over the place.

Comcast is quitting the race and will focus on trying to acquire Sky.

That means X-Men and Fantastic Four (and Deadpool) will re-enter the MCU in the next couple years. Gonna be interesting!

God, I want a Secret Wars movie so bad.

Comcast has won the Sky auction with a bid worth £30bn.

Saw that this morning. I think the sports coverage was the thing they wanted the most. ESPN can kiss F1 goodbye.

Seems like bidding for the rights would be cheaper if that was it (though I’m sure it played a part). I suspect it’s more about getting a foothold in Europe (and also preventing Disney from doing so). Sky is one of the biggest pay TV players here, if not the biggest (excluding OTT stuff like Netflix, anyway), and it’s expandable without having to lay cable.

Right. It’s all part of it. I think the fact NBC is so invested in Premier League already and lost F1 last year played a role though.
