7 days to die

Please test my server!
Game name: Qt3Land
IP: 98.247.43.247
Password: #t#a#p#i#r --> remove the pound signs

Let me know how your game connection and overall experience is.

Thank you!

Anyone? Mainly looking to see if pings are crap at this point.

I’ll check it out tonight.

Ran fine for me - 45 ping from the west coast

Fine for me a well. Did not stay on long.

I did notice after logging in, it failed to startup and asked me for the pwd a second time - but that was the only snag. 90 ping from Tx.

Thanks, guys. I’ve noticed that weird 2x password request thing myself, but it seems harmless.

Anyway, I’m planning on leaving this up for the foreseeable future as the Official-but-not-really Qt3 7DTD server. If I see reasonable traffic for a couple of weeks, I’ll leave it up, otherwise I’ll retask to the box back to its original purpose: scraping for Grandma porn. So come and play, claim a building or whatever, just leave the fxcking gas station alone, that’s mine.

Blow up the gas station. Got it.

I was more thinking about a putting a campfire up there. We can all go up there on the 7th day and sing Kumbaya whilst bashing bees and randomly picking off the horde below us.

D’oh! Update came out just a few minutes ago!

Not sure if that impacts the server.

Rly? I’ll have to check it out and reset the server if necessary. All you slavering hordes desperate to get on the quasi-official 7dtd server, hold up a bit.

Edit: or not, just looks like a controller update.

Server is being shut down for now. Don’t all get upset at once :)

I’ll bring it back when Alpha 10 shows up since I believe we’ll all be more interested then.

Steam has this on sale this week for 30% off, so you can get your zombie fix for a mere $16.74 or $26.79 for a pair.

It’s a very stable game that gives you tons of fun and it’s still only in Alpha. Highly recommended.

The Alpha 10 update is out now.

Long list of changes and additions.

Awesome. Between FC4, Elite, and now this, my gaming dance card is pretty full. At least I completed my Firebird set in D3 last night so I can drop it for awhile.

I put some time in one Alpha 10 yesterday. Pretty good changes from what I could tell.

The new doors are really cool. They’re getting the scavenged-DIY-post-zombie-apocalypse look down a lot better. The new destructible states for doors looks good and helps you see how close the horde is to breaking in too.

The new character models are okay. They deform in really weird ways, so you’re better off just keeping everything at default. This and Rust carry on the fine tradition of player characters starting out basically naked, which always seemed weird to me. What happened just before you spawned in at the edge of the map? Did roving muggers steal your clothing?

“Did we just become best friends?!”

Exactly my sentiments, and exactly my current playlist!

So…I bought this as it was on sale. Early impressions aren’t good for me. I kind of feel like I’ve bought Starforge again. You look at videos and see all this cool stuff but when you actually start the game you’re left with a ropey gfx engine, and very little clue of how to accomplish anything at all in the game. I could just as easily describe it as a collect 2d plants in a 3d world simulator as anything else.

Yeah its alpha but then so was Starforge until they suddenly decided it was finished. I find it somewhat baffling that developers take this approach of not worrying about early game until later, first impressions linger.

Day 1 is brutal. There is zero help, so you have to learn from others right now. There are lots of “day 1” guides out there, but here are the day 1/first 5 minutes:

  1. Punch grass, press E to collect it. Do this 3 times to get at least 3 grass
  2. Open up inventory by pressing I, put the grass into the center and press Craft button. This will create fiber

This is the basics of crafting. The cool thing is you don’t have to wait for this to finish - you can continue on your merry way, doing other things while this crafting is going on.

  1. At some point, you’ll need to re-open your inventory and click-n-drag the grass to your backpack.
  2. Go up to some bushes and punch with your fist. This will create a single stick. You need at least one of these for now. You don’t need to craft this.
  3. Collect small rocks laying on the ground by pressing E while your cursor is hovering over them. This will hoover them up into your backpack. Get used to this as you will need a lot of small rocks.
  4. Open up your inventory & drag the rocks to the center & press Craft. This will create sharp stones
  5. Once you have one sharp stone, open up inventory and do one of the following:
    a) Click on the tool icon and select stone axe
    b) enter “stone” in the search bar and select stone axe

Now, place the sharp rock, the fiber and the stick where there are outlines and press Craft

You now have a stone axe

This can be used to

Kill zombies
Chop down trees
Dig into the ground (but it’s very very slow)
Bash the big rocks you see lying around into smaller rocks + iron

From this point, the next thing you want to go after is a cross-bow and bolts. Lots & Lots of bolts, which require sticks, feathers and sharp stones.

There are hundreds of things you can craft / make from this point. Some require books that you’ll find, but most are just available off of the craft menu.

Now, mind you, you have to do all these things without attracting a lot of zombies. Because until you have the cross-bow, things will be very difficult.

ALWAYS RUN FROM DOGS

Now, you should have a bit more fun!

Tman is right on. That axe (grass, stick, and stone) is absolutely vital and immediately required. Once you have it, you can take a small breather.

If I wasn’t time-sinking my way through LOTRO and E:D right now, I’d be right back in 7DTD.
