A coup in Thailand?

It’s not quite that simple, the last Thai election was a little bit…messy.

No matter what the state of the last Thai elections were, having the military depose a head of state doesn’t seem like a step forward for democracy in Thailand.

Our last two presidential elections have been horribly messy… you don’t see that as an excuse for the military to take over.

Look, the Thai PM has got corruption issues, but from what I’ve read, he’s also got most of the people behind him because most of them are poor and he’s doing the populist thing by catering to them at the expense of the elites. It’s the Hugo Chavez playbook. So here’s the issue. It’s pretty clear he gets the most votes, which is what’s supposed to count in an election. It’s also clear he’s abusing power in a way. But does that mean the solution is a military coup?

One thing to remember is that the right nod of the right head at the right time is probably behind all this. And the right head in Thailand, so to speak, is a fellow inclined more toward the “monarch” end of the “constitutional monarch” scale.
