I want to know what happened to Tyget, the Lannister squire who disappeared during the big riot during Clash of Kings. It’s pretty clear something is up, because supposedly Varys and the Gold Cloaks never found a trace of him.
I’m just trying to remember what happened before, since it’s been years since I read the last book. We need a spoiler/prologue thread, unless there’s one in the book.
Overall theme is Other vs Rhllor starts taking shape, characters begin to take sides
Others vs Rhllor vs Jon Snow you mean ;b ;b
I’m such a fanboy for this series, and really Martin in general. Hrm, having just looked, it appears that GRRM: A RRetrospective is back in print at Subterranean Press, though at a higher price than it was before (I think I paid $40). Erm, still, that’s better than the $100-$150 it was going for a while back on ebay. Neat collection, loaded with great stories and Martin commentary. FYI.
Going back to A Feast for Crows…honestly I’m trying to curb my intense disappointment that it’s being split and that I’ll be waiting that much longer for some of the POVs I want. But still, having waited as long as I have, a half-book may allow me to retain sanity for a time.
I don’t think it can be said enough times, though: Martin, STAY HEALTHY. We’re up to a 7 book count now, and we’re only three down. You’re…56 now? Hang in there, brother man.
Jaime is will confront Loras and Cersei, will be affected by more mysticism.
There’s a lot of room for Jaime to grow. I can see him being a future martyr.
The Hound falls in with the lightning lord, to be put before the crone.
Hmm, never thought of Sandor joining Dondarrion’s crew. Good idea, though.
Sansa weds Wyllas, but not before starting her first revenge against Cersei.
I think we’ll see some of Sansa’s tutelage under Littlefinger, but I don’t think she’ll get married to Wyllas here. I can definitely see her starting to formulate her own plots and start to actually become a player. I have a feeling she’s going to be Littlefinger’s downfall.
Robb returns from the grave, a man-wolf.
That would be cool but I don’t see it happening. I just don’t picture Werewolf Robb popping up here and there and causing havoc, and I don’t think it would fit with Martin’s universe, for some reason.
Tyrion, obviously, makes his way to the Wall, but stops by the Eyrie to bid Littlefinger and “make him fly” boy farewell.
Tyrion really is a pure wildcard at this point in the saga. I can see him going to the Wall, or crossing the ocean to join up with Dany, or joining up with Dondarrion’s crew. Just pure possibility.
Tommen dies.
Clarification. Tommen dies, directly as a result of Cersei’s stupidity.

Dorne, with their crest involving the Sun, and the fact that their capitol is Sunspear, seems to be a natural home for crusaders of Rh’llor. Perhaps Mellisandre will aid them in their push for power.
Varys gets his own storyline (I hope). First revealed human agent of the Other.
Oooh, good one here. I don’t think Varys should be a main, POV character, as his potency in the game I think is tied to his mysteriousness. I can definitely see him as an agent of the Other, though.
Heh, I’m in the same situation, having just finished Memories of ice.
Damn, but Erikson’s books almost require you to take notes as you read.
And I’m definitely goin to re-read Martin’s books over the summer.
So has anyone seen a release date for Feast for Crows?[/quote]
No. The July date listed by everyone, including Amazon, is no way. That was made before he submitted the manuscript.
George says he will post the official date as soon as they have it, but the UK and US publishers are working like mad right now figuring out the details. Apparently, they’re going to share the same proofing galleys, which is a somewhat rare occurance, and that should tell you the hurry they’re in. But there’s no way this book is going to get edited, prepared, proofed, and printed in two months.
Best guess right now is early fall, which means about 4-5 months. This is really fast turnaround for a novel. It’s normally a lot longer process, and you know the publishers are going to pay extra to get this inserted in the printing queue at the various printing presses.
With that said, I’m really loving the guy who wrote those chapter summaries. It’s like Cliff’s Notes for the series. I was reading the Game of Thrones summaries and he noted something that had been staring me in the face this entire time, and I never even caught it. (The direwolf that give birth to the Stark’s wolves had died due to an antler in its throat. So, basically, the symbol of House Stark (the direwolf) died due to the symbol of House Baratheon (the dancing stag).)
It’s interesting to note how author’s viewpoints can be reflected in their descriptions of sex. IIRC, Martin has almost no homosexual relationships and a shit load of incest. I’ve read other authors that are the opposite. I’ve also read a lot of juvenile sex-starved erotica dressed up as “award-winning” science fiction. Yes, I’m talking to you Mr. Varley, the king of “All chicks in my worlds will be hot lesbians”.
Dude, Renley and Loras were as gay as you could be. He even confirmed that. And there are speculation about other characters, in particular, the bad ass Tully known as the Black Fish. Why did he put himself into exile? Why won’t he marry? Why did his brother refuse to talk to him for years?
Ah, forgot about Greyjoy, yep. Though I think that only half-counts since Theon never got past second base and didn’t know who she was. …Although the concept of “partial incest” isn’t any more forgiving or less squirm-inducing.
