I actually didn’t realize they had put out an officially supported way to get no-ads on all services in the bundle; this is genuinely intriguing to me. With the gf and I super into bball now, there’s been a few times we wished we had ESPN+.
But what does this mean for my Chicken Soup for the Soul+ monthly subscription??
Cross posting this here, as well as the Apple TV+ thread.
Worked for me.
Me too, thanks for sharing! Although Best Buy made me update my credit card with them to charge me $0.00, even though it’s already updated in Apple TV. Small price to pay!
So the thing is I am already paying $100+ for Prime, so I can’t see myself paying something similar for Walmart’s service just to get some free video, unless they add more to really make it outstanding. About the only thing I see Walmart being to offer with other services might be grocery shopping since their prices are cheaper than Whole Foods and Walmart stores are everywhere. If they give me free grocery delivery and a good video service, I might be interested.
Interesting times, though, with these giants vying for our wallets.
I mean, Walmart+ is free shipping and delivery, but it’s only gonna net you the shitty cheapo tier of Paramount+ with ads, so that feels like a no from me dawg, and I already sub to both, hah.
Thing is, we don’t need all that much shipped these days, from Amazon or anywhere else. Prime does give us some decent TV for some things, and Amazon does have everything to purchase, so there’s value there. Walmart will just duplicate a lot of what we have already, so the only difference I can see if free grocery delivery and whatever video they give away.
We haven’t really adopted grocery shopping online. We like to go to the store. So it’s mostly about the video being offered and the ability to price check against Amazon for something we want to buy online.
We had Walmart+ during the first pandemic year. Having groceries delivered to the house was pretty damn sweet.
But yeah, if it’s the Paramount+ tier with ads, I’m with Armando/Randy Jackson up there.
There are only so many things I can watch, so many services I am willing to pay for. We don’t shop at Walmart, for the most part, and we only buy groceries if we are there for some other reason. They really need to make a compelling case to attract me. Maybe the people who shop there anyway might grab this, but I need more than Paramount+.
I’m happy with Prime. Amazon has everything and their customer reviews I find to be really helpful. I think the Prime video has a lot to offer. We like the free shipping. Even with all they offer I can see a time in the future when we don’t renew Prime for a few months until we need it again, just to cut down on cost. Of course Amazon may fight this with discounts for renewing. That remains to be seen.

Yeah, we dropped it a while and then switched to monthly for a while once we needed it again, but I haven’t committed to a full year at a time yet, despite it being cheaper than paying monthly for 12 months. I’m just not sure I’m gonna hang on to it for 12 months. We don’t order stuff as often as we used to, and we watch the other streaming services a lot more.
Of course, Lord of the Rings is coming up next month…I’m excited for that.
I’m in exactly this same situation. Prime yearly just isn’t cost effective if you use the benefits for only a few months. They try to get you to stick around with things like the monthly game and ebook giveaways, but I just don’t care about those, and most Prime-specific deals really aren’t very good. I’ll happily re-up for a month once in a while to binge stuff like LOTR, just like I do with Netflix or Disney, but that’s all.
I’ve only read one of their free ebooks. Most of the titles don’t interest me. Frankly, they seem to be aiming them at female readers.
We use Prime for the shipping and TV. We will cut back on it at some point when we are both retired and travelling more.
FYI the free offer only applies once per account or some such. We got a free 6 months or year a while back from buying something … maybe my wife’s iPhone 11. When I tried to get my free 3 months after I purchased my iPhone 13, the offer wasn’t there.
I don’t know about the “female readers” part (my wife doesn’t seem any more interested in them than I am) but whoever they’re aiming at it’s not me.
Personally we rely on Prime for a lot of shipping, since we have a small child and it’s easier to buy certain things bulk. If it weren’t for that, the streaming and book benefits would not be enough to justify the price for a full year.
Do you get Kindle Unlimited with Prime for free? Is that the eBooks part of Prime? Or is it a different set of books?
My friend recently recommended a book on RoyalRoad to me since he knows I love time loop stories, but it turns out that author removed it from RoyalRoad and put it on Amazon as two eBooks for $8 each. But it’s part of Kindle Unlimited. So if that’s part of Prime, then I need to remember that next time I get Prime.

As far as I know it’s completely separate. I get a separate charge for Kindle Unlimited.
You do not get Unlimited with Prime (or at least, that’s how it was several months ago when I last had Prime). They give Prime members a choice each month of several books and you can pick one to get free. There’s a wide variety of authors and genres…when I had yearly Prime in the past, I picked up something like 2 dozen books and read maybe 6 of them, if that gives you any idea of how useful the giveaway is.
Now that I’ve looked up the pricing, Kindle Unlimited seems like a really dubious value proposition. $10 a month? I guess that’s good value for people who can read lots of books per month. I’m lucky if I can finish one book in 2-3 months, since I mostly only read once I’m in bed, and usually fall asleep most nights before reading much. It would be cheaper just to buy the books I wanted.

When my girlfriend has slow times at work, she’ll read 2-3 in a week, so it’s worthwhile for us.
