Some of those questions are hilarious. “Have you ever bought Avon products?” lol
I scored 63, but I grew up in (mostly) a small Oklahoma town in a military family and an Evangelical church. So a lot of the answers were a long time ago.
Okay I will embarrass myself and say I got a 23.
I know one white person and haven’t seen them in 2 years. And he’s more of an immigrant than I am.
Anyway this score is like “you might have had brief exposure to some of the most downtrodden people and disorganized neighborhoods, but you still have little idea what life is like in an ordinary working-class or middle-class neighborhood.”
Well screw you test maker, I grew up with unreliable electricity and we couldn’t drink the water out of the tap.

The first question: “Have you ever lived for at least a year in an American neighborhood in which the majority of your 50 nearest neighbors did not have college degrees?”
How the hell should I know?
“Have you ever participated in a parade not involving global warming, a war protest or gay rights?”
lol, Libertarians.
The quiz is 6-7 years old, which does explain some things to me around the P&R questions. I ended up with a 39 as someone who didn’t watch much in the way of media that was popular 8 years ago and isn’t hitting up dine-in scenarios still… but grew up in a lower-middle class dual-income atheist household in the suburbs.
I got a 38. Is that good? Is this like golf for a lower score is better?
I got a 44. I think the lower the score, the more out of touch we are with mainstream American culture, is what they said on the website.
I can definitely agree with that. Like participating in parades/floats, and what it means to have a letter jacket, all that stuff is Greek to me.

I got a 29. My dad was a manager/executive but also in the army so I had kind of a mixed upbringing.
Also, I watched the first episode of Pantheon - great start!
On the recognizing military ranks question, I recognized corporal and captain, and maybe the two stars (two star general?) but I’m lost on the eagle (colonel?) and the blue one on the right with the five stripes on the bottom, a star in the middle of those stripes and one stripe above a blue field (no guess, but I assume it’s a Navy rank because of the blue).
I distinctly recall and loathe this quiz. The notion that only illiterate dirt-farming Christian xenophobes are “Real Americans” is the most grotesquely toxic facet of our popular political dialogue. Fuck those people and the ones that perpetuate the notion that they’re at the heart and soul of our country.
On the other hand, I’m pretty psyched to watch Hocus Pocus 2 for H-ween. Finally saw the originally last year after never having watched it before and it was an absolute delight.
This forum needs a “Tell us how you really feel Armando” button.
Can I help you with something, WS?
No, I meant that in good humor. You don’t hold back your contempt for people and sometimes I just think it’s funny, I wasn’t particularly offended or bothered by this case (this survey is weird). I know there are times it has bothered me, sorry if this response suggested that was the case here.
How old am I if my snap reaction was “sounds like some gen z nonsense?” (Probably super old.)

SOMEbody scored in the single digits, eh?
J/k, I get your point, but it’s more about who constitutes the larger part of US culture, not about which one is “right.” We’re (you’re) vastly outnumbered.
The existence of a Hocus Pocus 2 really does make me want to suddenly check out the original, and I never had that desire before.
44, actually. A good portion of my loathing for that particular section of “culture” comes from being raised in it and living in it to this day in the American south.
I got a 42. I blame it for having dined at Applebee’s, Waffle House, and IHOP in the last year. Hey, we enjoy breakfast out on the weekends. Applebees was to watch some Sunday Night football and try their Endless Wings, which I will not go back for.
I also don’t know if I know any evangelicals. No one introduces themselves that way and I haven’t participated in any chit-chat about the coming End Times.
Yeah, I got some points for Denny’s, Chili’s and Ruby Tuesdays (fuck you, I like salad bars. Sue me!"
I got a 21 (and it turns out I knew all but Master Sergeant of the ranks, and didn’t know the two stars rank was called Major General), but I kinda feel like Armando here. So what if I didn’t go to fucking Branson, Missouri? I only lived East of the Mississippi for about four years in my childhood* and most of the rest of the time I’ve been in/near Portland, OR or overseas one place or another (as a kid/teen, mostly). Yes my dad was a college prof but he grew up on a small ranch outside of La Grande in Eastern Oregon, bucking hay bales, milking cows, mending fences and hunting with his dad. I didn’t do the last three of those things but I did buck alfalfa bales most summers in my later teens and well into my twenties.
So sue me if I grew up bilingual/bicultural and know some rancheras and boleros by heart as well. I guess that makes me “not a REAL AMERICAN” or something, according to this bullshit.
*during which my folks were really counting their pennies BTW. Somehow we were supposed to make a special trip to Missouri during that time? Or later, I was supposed to haul my ass to the other side of the country to go? How good can it be ffs?
My score actually dropped thanks to the pandemic keeping me out of American Casual Dining Establishments the last couple of years. None of them travel well enough to get delivery or are tasty enough to waste my few “restaurant dates” in (gotta schedule any indoors activities with my partner around social engagements with friends who are still being hyper covid-vigilant, alas).
Ruby Tuesday salad bar and TGI Friday potato skins 4 lyfe, tho, yo.
