Yeah, but that Bunny Episode was fun. If incredibly heavy handed. And Trump as the Cyclops was on point, although I haven’t seen too many references to him in the 5 episodes I’ve watched.

I’m hoping they expand the characters in the future. I need me some Good Feathers!

No Spoilers, but there is an episode with Chicken Boo.

Awesome, thanks! Gonna try this out today.

THAT… was… something.

I take it you got to the episode.

I"ve been trying out various shows/movies on Prime and stumbled across Pandora. Hadn’t heard about it before and gave it a try, and I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s a scifi show set in 2199. It technically takes place at an academy (similiar to Starfleet Academy, but less formal), but spends about as much time in the academy as Buffy spent in school.

Afer finishing season 1, was surprised to discover that it’s a CW show, and seems to be generally panned by everyone. I am now caught up with season 2, watching the season on CWs app. Season 2 is different from the first season, spending even less time around the academy and more flying around the universe.

I’m sure everyone here would hate the show, but if you are hard up for something and want some scifi, may want to give it a go.

Oh. Oh, well. No, I’m confident this will be good as Michael Lewis’ adaptations have, as I see it, a strong track record so far.

I watched the first few episodes when it popped up in my algorithm a couple of weeks ago. Not all bad, but I felt the plotting and some of the sets were pushing the bar down even for CW shows. I might return to it at some point when I run out of other stuff.

I’m pretty easy to please. I even enjoy The Outpost.

I wrote this about Pandora earlier:

It’s terrible but it’s such a insane and silly blend of different genres and tropes that I can’t help but laugh out loud multiple times every episode. One minute it’s space opera, next minute supernatural doomsday prophecy, a high school dating drama, an espionage thriller, quick detour in a Saved by the Bell episode, a classic Trek episode where they visit a planet that seems normal but is later revealed to have a bizarre cultural practice, etc.

What I like is that the show actually does take itself seriously, it genuinely tries. So there’s an earnestness behind the cheese that puts it well into the so bad it’s good territory and I can easily enjoy it. The reason it blends so many genres is that it really is ambitious, they want to have students worrying about passing the test in a hard Academy class and hanging out at the local coffee bar, but also space opera politics on a galactic scale. It feels like a show that aired in the 1990s that I would have been super into as a kid.

You have to be able to enjoy the terrible acting and writing though. It doesn’t really improve, so if you don’t find it charming you probably just won’t like it.

Yeah, I remember seeing that summary in one of the other threads, but I forgot about it until it coincidentally inserted itself into my radar the next day. And while I felt that you adequately prepared me for the cheese, I was still floored by some of the stuff I saw, such as an advanced cloning facility located in the middle of a what looked like a medieval village, complete with torches on walls and dudes in black robes. Like you, I eat this kind of stuff up – it’s so sincere!! – but I had other shows to go back to so shelved it for the time being.

I tried Pandora as well and it has a very attractive CW style too-young cast, but man the acting and writing is not very good. I mean, it IS trying as folks have said. I might watch a bit more - only watched one episode.

Let me also toss out Motherland Fort Salem on Hulu as another under the radar teenage military supernatural academy alternate history show that is much stronger and I think I can genuinely recommend, if you’re into a retelling of American History where witches teamed up with George Washington and have been a permanent part of the government ever since. And lots and lots of teenage romantic angst of course.

Wow, that’s really cool. Nice that SF&F shows are expanding beyond the usual expected settings.

I’m just going to post a whole SECOND TRAILER because watching it I forgot how charmed I was by this goofy but super earnest show that nobody else seems to have watched. It’s a FreeForm network production so keep your expectations low, but they really go hard on the premise and seem to think a lot about whole alternate history thing and how the world works. And it’s way way better than Pandora which I mostly enjoy for being terrible in interesting ways. Mini spoiler, the witch you see alongside George Washington is the same same witch you see addressing the academy. Most witches don’t have long life spans but she’s an exception. This isn’t a secret or anything, she’s super famous and this is obvious minutes into the pilot.

Hey now, some of us did. :) There’s some discussion up-thread - TLDR, I enjoyed it but had to suspend my disbelief hard on just how dumb the characters act in places.

Yeah, that’s a fair assessment. I really liked it, but you’re right it certainly had its moments.

Hulu has their Black Friday deal going where you can get the basic tier (with ads) for only $1.99/month for 12 months.

Everyone, or new members only?

Nevermind, its only new subscribers, and those that cancelled 3 month or more ago.
