‘A sterile purgatory filled with ghosts’
That one is loaded with gold: the character names, the facial expressions, the fact that “a**” is censored but “fucking” isn’t.
And the horrible, horrible truth to each panel.
There was some Gabe drama on Twitter recently. Following this, Gabe posted this.
I find that to be a pretty horrible thing to say. I don’t advocate piracy, but a one-year prison sentence seems excessive, let alone whatever sentence Gabe had in mind.
This is disappointing.
Aghh let’s not have a piracy discussion here. I just did a very long discussion about it yesterday, and it was really bitter, heated and dissappointing for me (really bad attitudes by people who I have known for years).
This isn’t really related to Penny Arcade comics, so it’s actually OT.
I sort of agree with him. I mean, this isn’t just a case of someone downloading an MP3 without paying for it. He distributed a stolen copy of a film that hadn’t even been released in theaters. I’d say that the guy is lucky that he got off with just a year in prison.
And since I agree that we don’t need to turn this into another piracy thread, that’s the last I’ll say on the matter.

Well this little bit might be the most important part of that whole article.
he has a prior conviction for a similar offense

That pirate is from my city! The hacking community on my city dont know him. Some people asked about it, and nobody knows him. I suppose he is a lone wolf.
I would have disagreed with even that, but from the original article:
In any event, Sanchez was described by prosecutors in language that suggested something of a piracy supervillain who shared other people’s intellectual property without restraint. He “uploaded the workprint more than one month before theatrical release, he has a prior conviction for a similar offense, he had been regularly uploading pirated movies for four or five years, and did not appear remorseful after charges were brought,” prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum. Additionally, Sanchez promoted his actions on several heavily trafficked websites, posting links to the Wolverine print using screennames that were variations on the word “skillz.”
So this wasn’t some kid who uploaded the movie to look cool to his high school buddies, this was a guy who had been caught and convicted before, but was still stupid enough to go online and brag about it. It’s like he wanted to go to jail.

So is there more to the drama? Cuz Gabe and hyperbole are not exactly strangers. I could see that being a joke he made.

Always the car analogy! It’s the go-to analogy for piracy debates. Why not mix it up and compare a digital copy of a CD to a power tool or a boat?

And frankly? I would copy a car.

I think you would have to be a fool not to copy a car!
OK guys, you’ve had your fun. Cliffski pm’d.
Going to be honest: my initial thought re: Tycho’s face in the third panel is “My tongue is going out for some of that sweet, sweet semen. . . and I don’t know why and can’t control it!”
Maybe this should go in the “PA Strips I Hate” thread, but it kind of bugs me that this one is just a couple of talking heads. Maybe this is just Gabe banging one out after getting back from vacation, but in other strips he’s been better about showing them actually doing stuff or having stuff going on in the background, even if the joke is 100% in the dialog.
