I knew some shit was about to go down, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t surprised by what did!

When Robb says “I’m not dead yet Mother!” earlier in the book you know he’s fucked.

Also Walder Frey and all his “Hehs” is so obvious that he’s up to something. Its almost cartoonish.

See I think it’s Martin’s way to telegraph things such that, while you’re reading the “surprise,” you think, “Oh, right, should have seen that coming.” But I generally don’t, certainly not in a “Robb and Catelyn will be murdered” sort of specific way.

Walder always had his hehs. It was his mayhaps that should have clued you in.

I figured Robb was getting into trouble at the wedding, but I didn’t think Cat would bite it.

Well, Cat was going on and on about how they NEED to eat something upon arrival to attain the supposed safe status of a protected guest… That certainly should have tipped off a few warning signs.

No, everyone already knew that Frey was pissed off, unpredictable and dangerous – that wasn’t so much telegraphed as stated.

Cat’s insistence on guest-right rituals wasn’t foreshadowing.

It kind of feels like it.

Also slightly more subtle but Stannis and Melisandre do the ritual to have the three false kings die, and then a few chapters later out of nowhere Balon is dead and Robb’s all “I’m not dead yet mother!”.

just finished Storm of Swords…and wow…didn’t expect the ending at all. What an incredible book.

Probably the best single fantasy novel I’ve ever read.

Question about aSoS. When Jaime leaves Harrenhal and dreams about meeting Brienne and Aerys’ kingsguard underneath Casterly Rock, it seems like Brienne might actually be in the dream too; dream-Brienne’s dialogue is written more like a (semi-confused) fellow-dreamer than a part of the dream itself. Also, at one point she asks if there are beasts down where they are, mentioning a bear twice in quick succession - suggesting perhaps that she’s already been sentenced to the bear pit by Vargo Hoat and understandably preoccupied with godless killing machines.

But if they shared a magical dream, wouldn’t it have led to a pretty weird conversation when Jaime tells her he returned because he dreamt of her?

OK, so bloody Martin! I’m on book 3 and by now I’m so used to his damn style I can tell something awful is coming a mile off…

Stuff in the middle of 3
So when I read a couple-or-three chapters leading up to the Twin Towers wedding I’m automatically thinking “This is really going to be very, very bad”. I don’t even need the damn allusions to bad stuff, I can tell! It’s got more than a passing treatment, therefore BAD SHIT WILL NOW HAPPEN TO CHARACTERS I LIKE". Crazy ass depressing writer! Hah!

On the plus side, no more Caitlyn narrating.

I hope some bloody awesome stuff happens soon. The last awesome thing was Dany taking out the slavers. Other than that, wandering, rain, death, gloom and betrayal!
This fucking thing is still full of visible spoilers…

I know, and I don’t read the thread, but had to come in and rant/rage/boggle a little. And hey, might as well use the tags now they’re there.

It’s a shame really. I’m also currently on book three and thought the spoiler frequence had lowered a bit in here to enable us to discuss non-story points of this outstanding work. At least those guys could put them into SPOILER TAGS IN A NON SPOILER THREAD. I thought there was as a spoiler thread in this very subforum…

Oh, I just saw that everyone else is discussing the scene. Lol. Perhaps we need a spoiler thread for each book. Seem to be enough of us reading them.

Where do you see “no spoilers” here? This is the main aSoIaF thread. Since Dance with Dragons came out there has been a “Dances with Spoilers” thread for spoilers from that book. But this is a thread for people to discuss the whole series to date; that’d be pretty damned unintelligible if everyone had to use some secret code for people a decade behind.

Yeah, there are spoiler tags… now. But for the other 97% of this thread, you might want to shield your eyes.

As Jason said, this is the spoiler thread. The only non-spoiler thread was the one to do with the HBO series which was marked as such.

General rule of thumb - if you have not consumed a piece of pop culture prior to entering Qt3, GTFO until you are ready to TALK about it! :)

I’m sorry if this has been posted before, I’m still at the beginning of ADwD, so I’m trying to avoid spoilers by not reading the previous posts.

I just wanted to know, has anyone else been noticing some grammatical mistakes?

For instance:

Spoilers for ADWD up to and including Jon’s second POV chapter
Instead of say. If that’s not an error it sounds very weird. I’ve seen around 3 occurrences of that kind.
