Disney closed down their water park in 2001. Its amazing how fast the forest reclaims the land.
Gotta love urban exploration threads, cool pics. :)
I look at those photos and can only think of the possibilities of using it as sets for a horror film…
Why is the word “undisturbed” partially censored (in that post you link)?
‘closed down their water park’ is kind of a misnomer, since they also had Typhoon Lagoon and have since replaced the closed one with Blizzard Beach.
I was wondering the same thing! Undis = undies? or something? Bizarre.
Is it just me or were there like 12 pictures of a single segment of a single slide from slightly different angles?
Needs more radiation warnings and Russian signage. The inside of the shack was going in the right direction though.
Why the fuck do corporations think they can just close something down and leave trash everywhere? Would it have been hard to ask every employee on closing day to play a game of “carry something to the dumptruck and chuck it in” for a couple of rounds?
This website has some neat abandoned places, if you can make it past the rudimentary webpage layout. I picked out an old Virginia ren faire, which was interesting -

I assume they still own the land.
So? There are laws about dumping in a lot of places in this country. This place is definitely a dump.
I am going to steal those pictures and Photoshop them into an epic “Worst Disney Vacation EVER!” thread.

Well, the next step would be to figure out what those laws are wherever this park is. :)
It is short for UnDisney. In the world of Disney fan boards, the evil board is the “UnDis” board. Linking to UnDis is forbidden by some Disney fan sites, so they filter it.
I’m kind of surprised they simply abandoned it. There are some other abandoned parks around, but most were cleaned up more then that one was. Especially since it appears to be within view of one of the hotels.
When I look at the old school mid-70s design of the slides, it looks to me like they decided it was cheaper/easier to just build an updated park than try to upgrade that one. Most of the ponds look too deep, entry angles are too steep, they pretty much would have to tear the place down anyway.
I can’t tell if you’re serious, but I thought that generally applies to dumping on public or someone else’s private land. In this case you’re probably looking to show either environmental damage from runoff or some shit, or attempt to mis-apply laws designed to protect against homeowners letting their property go to waste.
You can barely see the place from the ferry unless you’re looking for it, it is that overgrown. I don’t think any hotel has a view of it. The Wilderness Lodge definitely doesn’t, but the new tower at the Contemporary might be able to see it from one side.
The pond is also seriously, seriously gross. I would never swim in it. If I remember correctly it’s man-made and they weren’t counting on how much algae would grow and how quickly it would take over. They used to have a wave machine at the Polynesian hotel so that people could ‘surf’ but the thing kept jamming because of the algae growth so they just gave up.
Not only does Disney own the land, but they control the municipality in which the land happens to be located. The cities of Bay Lake, Florida and Lake Buena Vista, Florida are both part of the Reedy Creek Improvement Area which is wholly controlled by the Walt Disney Company.
