AFI's "100 Years ... 100 Quotes"

INCONCEIVABLE!
you mean, of course,

<lisp>‘INCONTHEIVABLE’</lisp>

Casablanca is a great movie, but come on. They’ve got half the screenplay on this!

AFI has always had a very strong bias towards older movies, even in this.

Egregious oversights:
“Freedommmmmmmmmmm!”

“Terminate with extreme prejudice”

“Just when I thought that I was out they pull me back in.”

“I’m sorry, did I break your concentration?”

Those are iconic phrases, in the case of the Godfather III quote people even mimic the inflection.

“Hey, What about Major Kong? WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOOOOOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE”

Strangelove is hands down my favorite movie. Major Kong rules, Mandrake rules, Ripper rules, Strangelove rules, Muffley rules BUT the best character is Buck Turgidson.

“Well, sir, if the pilot’s good, see, I mean if he’s really sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low - I mean, you ought to see it sometime, it’s a sight – a big plane, like a 52 – vroom! – jet exhaust frying chickens in the barnyard!”
“Yeah, but has he got a chance?!”
“Has he got a chance?! Hell, ye- – ye-…”

SUPER BONUS GUANO ACTION

“Get away from her, you bitch!”

Same with “Houston, We have a problem.” That’s not originally from the movie is it? Historical quotes shouldn’t count.

How can they leave out:

NOOOoooooooOOOOooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
REVENGE OF THE SITH
2005

I believe that Sudden Impact is the third Dirty Harry movie.
Fourth actually. After:

Dirty Harry
Magnum Force
The Enforcer
I believe that Sudden Impact is the third Dirty Harry movie.
Really? Wow, I thought it was an astoroid collision movie with Bruce Willis! I thought the Dirty Harry movies were a 70s thing. I could be wrong. I will have to do some imdb searching.

Some of my personal favourite quotable quotes from movies are:

From Buckaroo Banzai:

“No, no, no, don’t tug on that. You never know what it might be attached to.”

“No matter where you go, there you are.”

From Robocop:

“You have 20 seconds to comply.”

From Die Hard:

(The ever popular) “Yippe-kay-ay, motherfucker!”

From The Thing (John Carpenter version):

"I don’t know what the hell’s in there, but it’s weird and pissed off, whatever it is. "

From 2001:

“Dave, my mind is going.”

These are all quotes I find I end up using in the course of conversation at some time. Well, maybe not the one from Die Hard.

“No, I am your father.” - Darth Vader

Kind of surprised that isn’t in there. Yeah.

“I was cured, all right!”

“NOBODY calls Doogie a turd.”

“Whatever you say…pig-face.”

God I hate you, Sones. Oh how I hate you.

Kind of surprised nothing from Pulp Fiction.

Yeah, I have to agree. Lots of good stuff on that list, but too many quotes from the black and white days that no longer resonate.

“Good… bad… I’m the guy with the gun”.

Terminator-wise, I’m surprised they went with “Hasta la vista, baby” over “I’ll be back.”

Personally, I prefer the concise elegance of “Fuck you, asshole.”

37
I’ll be back.
THE TERMINATOR
1984

Fuck you, asshole. :)

“You are so money and you don’t even know it.”

“Heineken? Fuck that shit! Pabst Blue Ribbon!”
