I had the same reaction. It always sucks. That being said, the game already has espionage and cloak so maybe it’s not that. Holograms and other tricks in battle, perhaps? Kind of like Echo Walkers or something.

I don’t know, I ignore it too. :) My experience is mostly being annoyed when 5 AIs are dropping then on me every turn. It’s much more satisfying rolling over their cities rather than hoping my 30% chance covert op dice roll goes my way and causes them an inconvenience!

I don’t think it’s espionage in term of games mechanics.

More infiltration in terms of the lore (they’ve been hiding amongst us all along, a nod and a wink to the conspiracy theory that the rich and powerful on earth are lizards in disguise,) with maybe some abilities to reflect this.

But the most espionage type race is the subdiacte so it wouldn’t make sense to do that.

Some guys give an in depth look at the upcoming expansion, including racial bonuses, new units and abilities, and changes to a bunch of existing unit mods in order to ‘make them more interesting.’

New unit example:

Sharkarn Infiltrator:
It has the ability: Holoshift, which allows it to copy the appearance and abilities of any non-mechanical Tier 1 or Tier 2 unit within 7 hexes on the battlefield.

That dev diary was a great read, and after watching the video and reading extra details in the dev diary I’m super pumped.
