Maybe it gave you the ability to produce them?

It did not!

e: pretty sure, but now I’m double-checking because I don’t wanna be that asshole

e2: i’m not that asshole, it did not in fact let me build lazerbuggies

e3: it’s definitely @TriumphJordi’s fault

Maybe you misread it and it said “Buggy Imperial” LOL

I got a land unit from an ocean hut and it showed up on the nearest land mass, not in my capital - are you sure you don’t have a buggy somewhere near the coast, perhaps hiding in one of your stacks?

Yeah, I went to the army screen and everything.

I have in fact played these games before, you guys ;)

So rather than the usual “conquer the world” sandbox gameplay, it is a series of linked scenarios on different worlds? If so, how do you win?

Each of the randomly generated planets has a few missions - one of them will be like the main objective, but all of them will net you meta-points (Influence) you can use to spend on future upgrades that you can bring with you into the next scenarios. But the main mission objective will end the scenario - though you can also win in the usual fashion, I suppose. The idea is these planets play out quite a bit faster depending on the objective.

For example, the first (and so far only, Valhalla came out) planet I did was “eliminate a faction in 20 turns!” and I just barely managed to to it, so it was a really quick map. I was playing as the Shakarn/Prometheans at the time, but after the mission ended you can see I gained XP for VoidTech as well.

EDIT:
I just launched the game and here is a planet I can select as an example:

There are Traits (things that modify the planet), Secondary Objectives (presumably the primary objectives are still victory conditions like Science, Diplomacy, Combat, etc.) and the yellow (highlighted) one triggers a victory condition, so for this planet if I defeat all of the Swarm Commanders (??) I’m done.

Looks like this one is worth 170% XP so that’s … terrifying, honestly. But one of the Traits is Paragon Warlord, and I can unlock some sort of Relic called an Imperial Crown, which I can then use in future missions, or something. Very spicy.

tl;dr it’s mostly Mutators for skirmish games, and it’s pretty fun

That sounds really a really cool game option, that really breathes some new life into it if you want something different from the usual sandbox type of gameplay. But one further question, is there some end to this, some victory condition(s) or do you play until you lose a scenario?

Is there some kind of counterbalance to the fact that you will just keep getting more powerful with each planet you conquer?

It sounds like the “complexity rating” of the planets on offer goes up as you advance so presumably the world maps get more challenging.

Happy to see that everybody is enjoying the new content. Should you encounter any issues don’t hesitate to make a bug report on the Planetfall Forum, the Empire is grand and still has some potential bugs.

Bit of a bug – picked up a goodie hut in the ocean with a flying scout, and chose the option to Create unit: Imperial Buggy . I got nothing! No unit, nothing. When I lose this map, it’s on you personally ;)

Two possibilities there, it’s a Hero Item and part of your Arsenal. Check whether you can equip it as your primary weapon on a Commander or Hero. The other option is that the pick up was too far into the water and it wasn’t able to spawn the unit on a nearby land hex.

Ah, I didn’t think to look for it as a vehicle. Derp. Even if it is there though: misleading!

In any case I’m not actually mad. Having lots of fun with the game :) I did totally forget that there’s a difference between plasma and laser weapons though, so burnination isn’t quite as streamlined as I’d planned, heh.

I don’t play multiplayer so this doesn’t affect me as far as I can tell, but my Xbox copy won’t let me login anymore (says password error, I haven’t bothered trying to reset password though). Not a big deal since the game + season pass & expansions are all still unlocked and playable.

D’oh. Thanks for the post on the secondary objectives triggering a win. I started a first empire game last night and just assumed secondary objectives were objectives that you could accomplish in addition to a normal win condition.

I didn’t pay them much attention, and totally missed the information at the bottom of the explanatory text pop-up panel that they trigger a win. (In my defense, “secondary objective” feels a bit misleading if it’s a game-ending win condition. “Custom objective” might have caught my eye more.)

I’ll have to check what those win conditions are for the planet I started last night. Cool!

EDIT: I just took a quick look at the game I started, and I don’t see unique win conditions for the planet I’m currently playing. So maybe not all the planets have these secondary objectives that trigger wins?

I have only done two, but I think the idea is they are always present to make the maps faster - look in the objectives tab, along the left, see if you have anything listed there?

So do you think a newbish player like me can just jump into the new empire mode? Or should I practice on campaigns or skirmishes first? I worry I’ll do poorly on missions for my “empire” and will fall behind as planets increase in “complexity.”

That’s a great question, honestly. It does seem like the planets are more complex than a standard sand box game, but on the other hand I don’t know if there is any penalty really for “losing” either; each planet win or lose could just be a learning experience for you. I say go for it - can’t hurt to give it a try, after all!

Cool; I’ll give it a go. Thanks!

The planet I just landed on has dark towers in place of gold and silver landmarks, and the voidbringers are coming. Basically makes the game full on pve with a potential pvp sideshow.

My leader is a level 3 synthesis oathbound. This is all so crazy, I love this mode. I just wanna yell “bring it on!” to the heavens as I prepare for the invasion. This game has become a crazy randomized single player toy box to explore.
