Thanks. That was so confusing. I wonder if that was in the tutorial and I somehow missed it?

Do you guys change exploitation much? Like if you start with one, then find your expansion focuses in a different direction?
Also, one of the research options is lowering a food tax, or something like that? Anyone have more info on that?
Not sure what you’re referring to with exploitation?
He’s talking about changing a food to a production exploit, for instance. It’s an easy answe - do it when and as needed.
Food tax comes into play when your colonies share/receive food to grow the smaller colonies faster. Not sure what the question is though.
@jpinard have you tried the in-game help guide?

I brought it up for a few things, but had stopped using it as the items I looked up weren’t explained in enough detail. Will try it some more and check it out for food.
It’s been along time since I’ve played a planet-based TBS 4x, so I’m pretty rusty.
Oh. Well, for me at least, the thing I need to work constantly to increase the supply of boils down to two things:
Energy and Cosmite.

What determines who has a claim on a sector? Is it who is bordering it? Who ran through it first?
Tried to look this up and looked in game help, but no luck.
Both of those claim a sector.
I’ve been claiming them by burning 20 diplo points in order to keep my AI team mate from gobbling up all the sectors around us.
Is that not the only way besides annexing to actually lay claim to a sector?

Bordering a sector gives a claim on it. I can’t remember if it has to be bordering a colony or if it can just be an annexed sector.
Oh, so you don’t have to burn diplomacy points formally claiming them then? Wow, good to know.
In other news, I’m just an utter incompetent at this game, the AI’s I team up with both expand faster than I do and build armies faster than I do and end up carrying me. haha
It’s just sad how bad I am, this is with everything set at easy in a 2x2x2 campaign.
The good news though, I absolutely love this game. Every time I debate what to play, I play this. Given the other choice right now is Rebel Galaxy Outlaw that’s high praise coming from me, because Rebel is a fantastic version of Wing Commander/Privateer.

How many skill points do we get when we level up? I forgot to keep track of what I had before/after.

Thanks! I was thinking it was 4, or that it changed based on the level you hit. Now I can plan better. I want the skill that lets you have an additional mod, but that costs 8 skill points.
Yep, level 8 skills are fabulous.
I feel like I don’t hump mods as much as others. I mean, they’re great and all, but another unit or whatever is much better than a mod. I don’t sweat dumping all my cosmite into colonizers until I’m relatively stable.

Speaking of mods, when you kill an enemy hero, do you get their mods? So far it doesn’t look like I’ve acquired any in the campaign, but maybe I missed it.
Really enjoying the game now that I’m understanding it better.
I’m pretty sure the shiny gold stuff laying about where you killed them can be picked up and allocated to your heroes and inlcudes not just weapons but mods (even gives you the option if I recall correctly of converting it to energy instead).
I typically keep and allocate to my heroes as it’s almost always I’ve found pretty good stuff.
The next time I kill one though I am going to pay close attention to what they dropped and confirm it included mods.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen “shiny gold stuff” left behind when a hero is killed.
Hmm, well, I’ve seen it on the campaign map and make sure to run one of my armies over it (assuming the victorious army isn’t already standing on it) so I get the screen with the options to pick up or sell.
Saw it a couple times yesterday in my co-op team campaign.
It could be you’ve just been killing heroes so far that didn’t have anything on them. Or given how busy the campaign map is you just didn’t notice it.
