The buffs aren’t tied to sector ownership, just walking an army onto it should be enough as long as it’s not on cooldown.

Just to clarify - Landmarks are the buildings with the little bronze, silver, or gold icon next to them that looks like… uh, a roman numeral, or something. Those are static, and often provide massive bonuses, buildings, and unique skills when joined to a colony.

So these landmarks are an on-going benefit then?

Because this one I got said something about getting this 20% accuracy bump based on owning a military workshop or something along those lines.

This kind of benefit really grabs my attention and I’m now keeping an eye out everywhere these might be much in the same way I made damn sure to find cosmite sectors to expand to and envelop.

Edit: oh, and this bears repeating, man do I love this game.

Those aren’t landmarks as such, they are visit sites.

And they recharge, typically every 3 turns.

Is it just me or are the hero recruit choices always in the same order?

Never really thought about it.

Same order how? As in timing?

Speaking of hero recruits, it’s a bit of a problem for me. I find that I too often don’t have the energy resources when they are offered and there doesn’t seem to be a way to get them again if you miss them. You can have a real hero deficit if you miss the opportunities. Wish there was something that allowed you to recruit them at any time (is there?).

I get offered the exact same heroes in the exact same order every game.

I just thought that’s a bit odd because you’d think this would be an obvious thing to randomize.

I notice this because I look at each one when they pop up early game and decline a whole series of them because I want one with a ranged weapon, so I get offered and then decline like 3 or 4 of the exact same heroes every single campaign.

I run into this too and have found you can cancel the offer and it gets made again to you like 3 times in a row. Or as I’ve also been doing you can ask for a different one and that’ll pop up a new offer.

Edit: think someone suggested this is a thing Triumph should have borrowed from EL and just had a hero pool you recruit from that’s always available. Definitely agree with this because I don’t see how game play is enhanced by just having them pop up. Especially in my case where I have to wait for the ones I want because I get the same order of heroes offered to me I don’t want.

Doesn’t seem to follow the game order for me.

Btw, I’ve just been playing Vanguard, decided to play the same race till I’m totally competent with them before moving to another. No idea if they plays into this same sequence thing or not.

Sounds like a bug - I’ve played the Kir’Ko several times now, always get offered an assortment of heroes. I recommend submitting your save game to the official tech support forum and letting them take a look. I assume this is a random map, and not the campaign?

Yeah, all of these have been random maps as the Vanguard.

I’m going to make sure I’m not just imagining this and watch once again for the order in my next campaign. If they are in fact the same order I’ll hit the paradox forum with a saved game.

I wouldn’t have probably noticed if I wasn’t so hung up currently on getting heroes who start with ranged weapons leading me to hit the next hero button over and over. The dumb part about is I could take anyone and just change their weapon, so I’m really just being a bit of a goof holding out for one that starts with a ranged weapon.

Triumph should borrow nothing from Endless Anything, as they make massively superior games ;)

I rather enjoy playing with whatever heroes I get and finding the best ways to use them with my current armies.

haha, I’m not saying I prefer EL, as I find it to be a pretty UI in search of a game.

But to say a developer such as Triumph shouldn’t borrow good ideas ignores that they borrowed from xcom in this very game with the implementation of overwatch.

The second observation is just a bit funny since it ignores the point I’ve been making for the last half dozen posts that I’m not seeing random heroes but instead the same sequence every time.

Very strange.

I have never had that.

I think I said something like this, that the hero academy was a good idea.

You could even take a leaf out of boardgame mechanics where the last bid for something gets a bonus for going last. I think I saw that in Concordia? The card that is bid for last comes with some extra gold or something…

Have you got “hero must match race” toggled?

I find EL had many interesting ideas, but lacked coherence and the ideas didn’t mesh.

Arguable.

The concept of overwatch is nothing new.

I got introduced to it, in real life, as watch and shoot.

I am slightly irritated by the Xcom references, because whilst a tagline like “Civ meets Xcom” probably shifted a tonne of copies, it really doesn’t do Civ, Xcom or Planetfall justice.

Plus there was that one reviewer who laid into the game for not having combat like XCom, because he was used to, and good at, Xcom but suffered in Planetfall’s combat, so that apparently makes PF a bad game…

Good thought on hero must match race, but these heroes that show up aren’t only vanguard, just the same sequence. Until I confirm this for myself in the next campaign I’d probably just chalk it up to my imagination and ignore me.

As for overwatch, yeah, not like I’m saying a military doctrine got invented by xcom, but what I am saying is utter the word overwatch to anyone in gaming and xcom is what they’ll think of. As for that setting expectations about gameplay and affecting reviews, not much they could really do to prevent it I suppose. I mean the habit of comparing this to that is just too strong.

Yes I understand, but what seems to have happened is:

  1. make the combat more ranged heavy, as it is sci fi
  2. something like overwatch is a given, so let’s call it overwatch
  3. Bam, game apparently borrowed that from Xcom
  4. Bam, game is apparently now Xcom

It’s just laziness.

The really annoying thing is the reviewer in question got informed of the fallacy several times, and yet persisted.

Anyway, enough about that.

I assume most think of Overwatch.

Good times, good times.

Not anyone. I think of Space Marines. The board game! :)
