We’re just not doing enough to educate the black people in our country.

I heard on NPR a while back that there’s a common anti-malarial gene among black people that increases susceptibility to HIV.

The sickle cell gene? I hadn’t heard about a connection with HIV there, but it might have something to do with the blood transfusions needs by people with the full blown disease (as opposed to the carriers of gene who just get the malaria immunity).

I don’t think it’s transfusion related. I’m also not sure it’s sickle cell, they didn’t say that.
