An Inferno difficulty mode was officially confirmed by Jay Wilson at Gamescom. All mobs will be 61+ (level cap is 60) and there will be Inferno specific runes, loot, and achievements to obtain. The idea behind it is to open up the whole Diablo game to players for end game instead of just making the bosses the most lucrative targets. Enemies will be more aggressive and have more special abilities and immunities. Hopefully they add random quests and other wrinkles to keep things fresh. Inferno would be the 4th time you play through the game.
Can’t wait to see monsters with Imnunities to Physical, Elemental and Magical again!
I think, correct me if I’m wrong, nothing ever had immunity to all three elements at the same time in Diablo II.

I think so too, but immune to physical/elemental existed and that was bad enough. If I ran into one of those bad boys while soloing with my sorceress, my only two options were to try and outrun it or quit and create a new game.
I thought that such a creature could happen, but that it wasn’t, you know, designed to happen. It was an occasional accident of the random level system. I’m almost certain that you could end up with a combination of oranges that would add up to that if you had exceptionally bad luck, though I can’t remember whether bosses only conferred their ability to mobs specifically flagged to them or if any other mobs of the same species that wandered within range would also pick it up.
You could still poison it!

Also, even cooler news, the beta will start BY September, per Jay Wilson.
I’m still pretty sure that nothing in Diablo II is immune to Lightning, Fire, and Cold.
In fact, if I remember correctly, it’s specifically precluded in the game’s code. Mobs roll for immunity to fire, cold, and lightning in that order (or cold, fire, lightning, don’t remember which), and if they get both fire and cold, they don’t roll for lightning immunity.
The upshot of this is that an Avenger is best off maximizing his Lightning damage (through the Resist Lightning synergy) than Fire or Cold, because there will be fewer Lightning-immunes.
Also, Magic is a separate damage type, which very few attacks (Holy Bolt is one of them) deal.
Interesting, but I wonder if it will be soloable with good gear. I’d hate for Inferno difficulty to be a forced grouping scenario, since I enjoy both solo and group play and don’t want to be shackled into one mode.
I wonder if I’ll ever even see Inferno difficulty.
The highest we ever made it in Diablo 2 was level 94/95 (I can’t remember which), and we almost made it to the end of Act V on Hell, but got killed in the battle with Neelathak. (And later found out it was an optional quest. OPTIONAL!!!) If Hell difficulty in Diablo 3 is as hard as it was in Diablo 2, I doubt if any of our hardcore characters can even make it through Hell.
I remember getting monsters that were immune to all elements (lightning, fire, cold) and physical so we needed some necromancer to kill that monster, usually happened in Act 2 in the Arcane thingie.

Yeah, you could get those triple immune guys. I am not sure how they happen, but I am guessing you run into the very rare naturally immune monster which then happens to get the other two random immunities.
I never made it past the start of hell difficulty in D2. I never made characters right, from reading forums and stuff apparently you put the minimum stats in to qualify for gear (regardless of class) and everything else into vitality.
This was very counter intuitive, especially for a sorceress not putting anything into energy, for example. I am glad D3 is dropping the stats thing and they are just auto-assigned as you level.
Iirc, you could get triple immunes for a while but they patched them out.

And then in Hell, you’d get Physical Immunes. Those were nasty.
Looks like console version confirmed. They are in the process of putting together full port team. “Stay tuned”.
Running on what network? If Battle.net is coming to consoles… well, Starcraft probably wouldn’t work due to control issues but how about World of Warcraft?
If it comes to console, I’m not sure it doesn’t just come to PS3, or else drop the Battle.net angle. If Valve couldn’t get Microsoft to bend on Live, I have to wonder if Blizzard can move them with a much less broad-market-friendly genre. I’ll be interested to see how well Diablo 3 sells on PC to guess whether it can break out like your average sci-fi first person shooter. It’s been a long ass time since Diablo 2 - how relevant is the title any more?
Ah, that makes sense. I know that even in Hell, you can’t get them anymore. :)
I have, however, seen a monster with :
Immunity to Physical, Fire, Cold, Magic and Magic Resistant.
Thankfully, I’m a Fist of the Heavens Paladin with Conviction. So say hello to having 0 Lightning Resist and eating bolts of lightning from the sky, Mr Monster!
Not very sexy, unfortunately. My roommate picked up the phone while we were running Baal and I got DCed. Came back dead. Ah, the days of modems!
With LoD Act 5 level 70-99 was kinda cake anyhow; getting to about 70 showed all the skill and then after that it was just dedication. I would have liked to hit 99 just to say that I did, though.
There were people who made 99 HC before LoD came out. THAT was insane because almost nothing gave you experience over level 85ish.
