But this isn’t the business world. They aren’t making X sprockets with Y whozits attached to them and suddenly discovered they didn’t have enough whozits to go around. Adding fun to a game isn’t just a matter of tossing resources at it. It takes time and talent but there’s no magic formula for how much talent it takes to get it done in a fixed period of time.
So am I the only person in the beta for Diablo 3, who is secretly wishing he was playing Torchlight 2 instead?
I just cannot get into Diablo 3, I don’t know what part is making me dislike it, but after 15 minutes I lose all desire to keep playing…
I’m going to say yes.
The Diablo III beta has sort of extinguished my excitement for Torchlight 2.
Maybe I should try a different class then, I’ve only played the Monk so far.
And I’ve never played any of the Diablo games before, was there a default class? If not, out of the characters which is a good starter choice?
Maybe I am just not liking the monk. :|
There really isn’t a “default” class so to speak, each plays quite a bit differently. Try the Wizard, that’s pretty different from a melee class. Or the Witch Doctor if pets and ranged damage is your thing, for example.
You’re also only seeing a very tiny sliver of the game, and if you aren’t getting a character to level 6 or 7 at least you’ll feel limited in what combat options you have, but if you level up to at least that, and then maybe even hit 9 or so by the end of the beta, you’ll have lots of cool things to try out.
I actually really enjoyed the Monk, his Exploding Palm skill is SUPER fun and the first rune you get for Fist of Thunder creates a chain lightning effect that’s effective, too. The first rune you get for the round house kick that causes fire damage is really satisfying as well. But if melee isn’t grabbing you, try the mage class out.
I think the craftable items have changed with recent updates, but try having the smith make better weapons for your monk. When I played the beta last Dec I didn’t enjoy the monk at all until I upgraded her cesti.
You’ve missed out on some great games.
Yea, granted, the output hasn’t been espicially high, but the quality sure has. Granted, if you’re not much into the MMO or RTS genres you could make a case for missing out, but I couldn’t imagine missing any Blizzard game, even if all you want to do is bask in the polished glow.
But I’m a Blizzard fanboy, so take my words with a grain of salt.

Well, MMOs are a no-go for me. And RTS designs have gotten so much more interesting than StarCraft (some of my contemporary favorites being Supreme Commander 2, RUSE, and Endwar) that StarCraft 2 holds zero appeal for me. I am looking forward to Diablo 3, however.
Does it seem like this could still come out in April? Yeah, it’s Blizzard, and Diablo, and they could likely announce it’s going on sale tomorrow and sell 3 million, but don’t you think they’d have at least a month of pre-release hype/advertising? Even if you assume the build people are playing is more or less final, I can’t imagine Diablo 3 coming out prior to early May.

Don’t fucking apologize for that!

I think you’re probably right. They’re mobilizing a huge publicity push for the WoW expansion next week, why would they release diablo3 a mere two weeks later? My expectations align with yours; we’ll finally get a release date in April then the game will release in May.

Awesome! But why is the plot WarCraft 3?
Good. That gives me just about enough time to play through Me3 a couple of times before starting this. Nice timing!
I’m tempted to load up Diablo 2 again to refresh my memory, if I can find it somewhere (maybe Blizzard is selling a digital version…) and if the screen resolution isn’t locked at some archaic value.

How archaic do you consider 800600 resolution? (if you have the expansion; if not you’re looking at 640480)

They are (purchasable from Battle.net) and it is (800x600).
I found it doable though, last year, even though it’s half I’m used to…
