IMO, they’re best off rushing. Releasing after Diablo3 will be a fart in a wind tunnel.

Except Torchlight 2 is a $20 game. That’s impulse territory for a lot of folk.

Still, if there’s D3 available and you’re in the mood for a hack and slasher - it’s doubtful you’ll get both as the average consumer.

Yeah, if you already have Diablo3, buying another Diablo-ish game seems unlikely. At that point, TONS of people will wait for a $5 Steam sale.

Some folks. I think Steam has really trained a lot of customers to wait a couple of months for the half or more off sale.

I know that my impulse buy threshold has gotten a lot lower since Steam’s holiday sales.

Yep. Tons of posts in the initial few pages are like “calm down, guys, we won’t see the game until '09 or '10.” If only they knew then…

Torchlight 2 will be bought pretty much as soon as it’s released. Diablo 3, on the other hand, will probably have to wait a while. $60 is a lot to ask, especially as I just tried D2 for the first time recently and didn’t much like it. T1 is great fun though, looking forward to the next iteration of that a lot more than D3. Having said that, hype and general excitement have caused impulse purchases before that I’ve regretted! (Starcraft 2 I’m looking at you)

Glad to hear the date is finally locked in. I hope to jump in with both feet this time as I loved Diablo to death and pretty much skipped Diablo 2 from being wrapped up in other games (MMORPGs).

I am also really looking forward to Torchlight 2 and being able to play co-op. I will buy both on day one no matter how the releases fall, though. Torchlight 2 should still have some advantages whenever it releases as Diablo 3 most likely will not have any price breaks for a long time.

Individual declarations to the contrary aside, I still say it would be a mistake to release afterwards. They need to get ahead of Diablo 3, or let it sit and release 6 months later. Releasing into the teeth of Diablo 3 would be a serious cock up.

Yeah, they need to let T2 sit. They have to find a sweet spot somewhere between the d3 release and the holiday deluge.

Is t2 going to have multiplayer or is going to be another 'we would like to add multiplayer at a future date" - which never materializes.

The mulitplayer worked at PAX. Of course, that was a controlled environment, but it worked.

Runic Games really living up to that Blizzard legacy.

It’ll ship in 2011, guys, we swear it!

Also four fucking years from announcement to launch for D3.

FOUR FUCKING YEARS.

Remember when they released the video and were like YEAH, WE LEARNED FROM OUR PAST MISTAKES NOW WE ONLY ANNOUNCE CLOSER TO LAUNCH.

Awesome news. Im downloading right now!!

If I was runic I think I might wait 6 months.

Either that or release it at the beginning of May, which seems unlikely.

So its a 7.6gb download.

Once you get to the end and click install.

‘The fire from the sky still falls. Diablo III has not yet launched.’

Yeah as mentioned, it’s just a bunch of encrypted files at this point. It won’t even install until the release date.

Presumably that’s because installing the game would make the game files viewable, and they want to keep details of the “plot” and bosses secret until the actual release.

I was going to purchase and preload the game now but then I thought… why bother giving them my money until a week before the launch? Is there some reason to preload now other than “beating the rush?” (and that’s not a metaphor!)

Nope. No preorder bonuses, happily. Blizzard is really bucking the trend there, and frankly I’m amazed Activision let them do it.

I ordered the CE. Yeah it’s 100 smackers but Blizzard CE’s are generally very good.

I’ve had the CE on pre-order since last Oct. My mom threw a $60 Amazon gift card at me for Christmas so that’s $40 for it out of my pocket. I cancelled the $80 CE for ME3 since I’ve been trying to spend less on my hobbies (not that I actually spend that much), but I’ll keep the CE pre-order for this one.
