It’s interesting that so many people are so thankful for being allowed to help Q/A a game that they’re likely going to pay for.

Beta is a win-win all-round unless your product sucks, and I’m never going to be grateful for being allowed to play in one.

That said, for the sake of both players and developers, I feel it’s appropriate to give feedback and bug reports. Not because the developers are entitled, but because it will help make the product better - which is also a win-win no matter what.

Also pay the man for doing your qa! I’m fine with free beta access QAing but I think it’s shady when a company does a pay us now, and then only prepayers get in the beta.

Betas haven’t been about QA for ages. They’re demos or they’re looking for gameplay feedback, not quality assurance in the traditional sense.

The other day I fired up the beta again and I ran across a black mushroom which is account bound and can’t be sold. Does anyone know what these are for?

OK, so I saw upthread (and on the linked NeoGaf) that all pre-orders have access to the beta now… and yet I see no evidence of it through my BatlleNet account.

Am I ignorant or simply unlucky? Assuming that I have been granted access, where would I see such a thing?

My wife and I were just downloading the Tera open beta client to try it later today. Hmm, it happens to start at exactly the same time. Wonder if there is a reason for that :).

I think I would rather spend my time in Diablo 3, though. I haven’t had a chance to try it at all yet.
