How do friends lists work in Battle.net/Diablo 3 anyways?

I’m gonna be Pogo 1187

From my battle net account page it says my friends thing is: Silver#1891.
I am not sure if that # thing is supposed to be there. I think on StarCraft II it was Silver.1891 .

For the D3 beta, you need to log into D3 and then at the character screen you find a friends tab and can add a friend that way. I think that is the only way to add a friend.

You can add a friend through the battle.net thingie or using the email account if you know it.

How do people do four-way voice chat with this thing? There’s no built-in voice (SUCKS!), so do people do Skype, or what?

We use Steam.

So, Battle.net immediately fell over and died?

If anyone expected this to work within 15 minutes of noon PST they are being adorably niave. :)

My advice? Wait until Saturday early morning to try it out, so your first experience is a (hopefully) smooth one.

I expect nothing, just making sure it’s not just me…

Trying to get in. Had about five different battle.net errors since I started. They sure keep busy.

RaidCall is awesome. And free. We use it for our WOT clan communications and will start using it for other games as well.

This is the first time I’ve run any Diablo3 client, and just from the login screen my video card fan spins up to full speed and stays there. That doesn’t bode well for my poor old system.

They still haven’t learned to set the time for being ready far beyond their internal expectation which is always overly optimistic.

There are two max FPS sliders in the options menu, one for foreground running and one for background running. I assume they’re included for just this reason…?

STOP ASKING ME TO CREATE A BATTLETAG grrr argh

I’ve spent an hour with the open beta, and maybe it’s just because I’m very early into the game, but it’s somewhat of a disappointment. I haven’t played Diablo 2 in years, so my memories of D2 are fuzzy, but I have spent a lot of time with Path of Exile:

-D3 gives you very limited upgrade options (at the beginning, at least) whereas PoE lets you access a huge upgrade tree from the get-go
-D3’s graphics look less… detailed? realistic? than PoE. PoE looks like D2, but D3 looks more like Torchlight.
-pace of D3 seems more leisurely than PoE

Positives for D3:
-music is great, just like I remembered
-it’s not a bad game so far… I can see myself enjoying it once I get into it a bit further.
-nice to see Tristram again, esp. old Tristram

I’m very early into the game, and I’m not going to stop playing it or say right now that it’s terrible in comparison, but I’m not as blown away with it as I expected to be. I’ll post more once I’ve put a few more hours into it.

(Remind me again why D3 needs to always be connected to the internet? From what I played so far, there was no reason why it needs to be always-on.)

Baaaahahahahaha, largest gaming network in the universe hobbled by an Open Beta.

BTW, my “battlecode” is Mysterywisc#1940, in case anyone wants to steal treasure from me or teabag my corpse.

Blizzard answer: “Because it enhances your gameplay experience by streaming all data tables in from the central server where we can make changes on the fly. Also, the RMH is awesome and we feel confident that anyone that tries it will fall in love with it.”

Mostly to prevent cheating (duping, etc.).

And I found Diablo 3 to be gorgeous, where as PoE I thought was a bit muddy looking. Maybe it’s just the art style you aren’t clicking with?

Also, I’m not sure if you are playing multiple characters to level 4 or something, but by level 9 you should have a LOT of options even to play around with on a given character, and you’ll get there in less than an hour.

Oh, Blizzard. You silly duck.

What’s annoying is that I’m trying to play an SP game and it won’t let me because the servers are busy…
