I think ibdoomed is a late-night TV watcher and associates commercials with Buttmasters, vegetable slicers and CDs on how to make a fortune in real estate. It would actually be a good thing if the Diablo commercials were along this vein. Then it would only cost $19.99 and you could get a second copy free if you call right now!

Wait, what? Every major AAA title does TV ads these days. Skyrim, ME3, Diablo 3, CoD, Gears, you name it. The fact that YOU don’t watch televison apparently leads you to believe that everything associated with it is automatically sneer worthy. I only watch DVR’ed TV and I’ve still caught multiple Diablo 3 ads as I fast forward. I even stopped to watch the first one, like I do with every commercial that catches my eye. Guess that makes me a “slave to the whimsy of tv marketing during my dawsons creek”.

Games like Diablo can actually have more appeal than the likes of the denizens of this forum; hell, my wife originally hated games until I got her to play Diablo 2.

She had a multi-year stint with it, followed by WoW, and now continues with others.

The point is the “others” they’re trying to reach will be likely see the commercials or other ads and be sucked into the life-ending power of Blizzard’s Random Loot Monster™ rather than visiting an online forum dedicated to gaming and the like.

I think if you don’t personally watch a lot of television it’s easy to forget that far more people watch tv than consume any other kind of media. I mean, a primetime show that has 5 million nightly viewers is considered a flop and doesn’t even make it through a single season.

If you buy the collector’s edition you get the e-book free from their website BTW. Score! Lemme see if it will let me download it tonight.

Blee, it seems to only have access to a web interface for the book, not a pdf I could pop on my readers. That site is live today tho, which is nice.

Hope that changes.
