I’m not sure I’m going to dive into Hardcore until a bit after launch when I’m more confident in Blizzard’s server stability, but other than that, fuck yes.

How about this, I’m supposed to go on a cruise with the wife a week from Tuesday. But fuck that shit. I told her to get somebody else to go. I’m going to play Diablo 3 until my fingers bleed and my ass skin bonds with my office chair.
“The fire from the sky still falls.”
So, how about them authenticators, huh?
More seriously, I am glad the topic was broached as I hadn’t heard about them previously and promptly signed up. You may now return to giddy anticipation mode.
Thanks for clarifying your source, Telefrog. I wasn’t trying to cast doubt on your hacker warning when I asked you that, I just wanted to know how one becomes knowledgeable about the future plans of hackers.
I was surprised to discover that the physical authenticators are only $6.50 when I was downloading the iOS version. How do the physical ones work? That’s either really cheap for a physical device that calls home to grab a new authentication key as needed, or some part of Blizzard’s security algorithms reside on that little thing’s logic chip, just waiting to be cracked open. IMO. And not a very informed one, at that.
The device doesn’t call home. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SecurID
The system is essentially uncrackable unless you lose your token (obvious) or RSA servers are compromised and leaks the seeds (which actually happened once in 2011 due to poor security on their part). Presumably that’s been rectified by now.
Also, I’m excited. I actually bought a new desktop computer for this, and I haven’t used a desktop seriously since 2003.

All I know is that I am going to be fucking miserable at work on Wednesday. Why? Because I’m going to be up to who knows what time playing Diablo 3 the night before! No hell, no way, am I missing the lifting of the gates at 3 a.m. Not after an 11-year wait. Not after the original Diablo sucked me into the world of MMO gaming like a whirlwind, letting me actually dungeon crawl with friends, and changed my gaming life forever.
I had that same thought. My solution was to take off Wednesday as well. ;)
Of course, now Thursday is the day I’m going to be hurting back at the office…

Yeah - so it goes live at 7pm for me. And I have the rest of the week off and the kids have been despatched off to their mother.
Thats commitment.

Check out this video, especially around 10:55 where they talk about builds for a petless witch doctor and a melee sorc for character building options.
When I tried the installer just now it downloaded a bunch of updated setup files.
The fire still falls, though. :-(

Why Wedesday? Doesn’t it launch at 12:01am PDT on Tuesday the 15th?
AFAIK, the removal of the ability to re-select “Basic Attack” after putting another ability in its place effectively removes melee Wizard and Demon Hunter builds from the game.

Yeah, it does. I got my days mixed up – I will be a zombie at work on Tuesday:(
I believe you’re right about demon hunters.
The spectral weapon is a ranged attack. While Magic Weapon does imbue your weapon with extra damage and properties, since other skills are based upon weapon damage, I think it’s now being treated as a sort of re-activatable buff to other skills. Since replacing your attack command with any other skill removes your access to it permanently, there isn’t really any way to just hit stuff with your sword/dagger/teddy bear past the early game. I am particularly confident on this because you can’t even bind the Magic Weapon skill to a mouse button in the skill calculator.
AKA, “true” melee wizard is also dead, although you can still theoretically load up on defensive enchantments, walk into a crowd of monsters, and start spamming Frost Nova.
Edit: Edited to note that you can force melee attacks by spending all of our mana and attempting to cast a spell that costs some, so I suppose melee wizards could just lob un-optimized spells till they’re out of mana and just hold down the button to keep swinging while mana regens? I dunno, just seems like a really silly omission that wouldn’t require a lot of work on their part to correct. Just put “Basic Attack” back into the list of selectables, at least in Manual mode.
I thought you could select the basic attack by turning on the advanced mode or whatever the option was that let you put any skill in any slot.
