Luckily, the lady on the phone was very nice and got things done pretty quick. I was able to pre-order the game again, and send her the order number so that she could give me a $10 credit.
I’m in no hurry to get the game. I just hope I can finish Dungeon Siege III before Diablo III gets here.

It is way-point based although there are some additional save points you encounter time to time. I think they are called check-points. I am not sure how they work if you leave the game and come back since I never did that in beta at one of these points.
I’d love to finish Dungeon Siege III also, but I’m stuck on the final battle in the DLC and its just driving me nuts, so I had to put it down. Maybe I’ll give that another go tonight, its been a couple weeks since I bashed my head against that.

If you bastards aren’t going to open the servers early don’t play the fucking opening cinematic after I install. Okay? OKAY?
Installed! I wanted to take tomorrow off so I could wallow in D3 for ~24 hours starting around midnight, but I have been thwarted by planning and design meetings for some sort of technical demo…THIS IS THE GREATEST INJUSTICE IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND!
Granted not all those runes are exactly an “all new skill” - some just modify the base skills cost, or damage. But if you count of those 125 skills/runes all the runes that actually change the way the skill works (like making Ray of Frost a maintainable shield that damages enemies that get near you, for example, or changing your fire hydra to a lightning one that deals different types of damage) I came up with something like 78 unique skills. Plus, ALL 125 skills do have different artwork/animation.

Watching Diablo 3 in a taiwaness stream is weird, like if this where a asian game.
A nice primer on Diablo lore from WOW Insider.
About how long does one need to play, roughly, between save spots? One thing with D2 was that I seem to remember those waypoints could be pretty far apart.
I like how they’re completely lost in that Edit: spoiler tags don’t work? :<
(Not a big spoiler)
Mood music for the eternal wait (now 13.75 hours and counting):

Any other suggestions? I have a shared Spotify playlist that resembles this list a lot called IHAVEASWORD. I was using it for Skyrim, but it translates well.
Whew. Had a bit of a scare when I got a corrupted file error during the install, but a quick googling sorted that out, and now I’m all ready. 4.5 hours to go…

In the beta, I’d say no more than 10-15 minutes, but it’s possible they’re more widely spaced later in the campaign. And your gear/XP is saved constantly. It’s just your progress through the world and the enemies that get reset, I think.

mystery: If you’re liking that sort of epic orchestral feel, there’s The Witcher soundtrack (not the Inspired By The Witcher, which guitar-heavy crap, though you may like that one too)
The Mass Effect 3 soundtrack is suitably epic:
The Dragon Age one is a little more on the fruity fairy foresty side of things, but it’s alright:
EDIT: Man, Spotify has a ton of game soundtracks…here are links to Assassin’s Creed and Hellgate:London, both of which fit the mood pretty well
One thing I’m very nervous about in Hardcore Diablo III. Hopefully someone can put my mind at ease.
One of the things that made Hardcore Diablo II really compelling is that you could allow your friends to loot your corpse. So after the first time we lost our equipment, the first thing we always did in a session of Diablo II, was for everyone to give everyone else in the party permission to loot their corpse. That way, the equipment you had on you goes on to the next character you make. It was kind of like Demon’s Souls in that way, since you don’t lose equipment when you die in that game either.
Do they have that in Diablo III? I really hope so. Because having to start from scratch with each character would just be terrible. At least in Diablo II, you could pass on your hard earned best equipment to future characters. Granted, sometimes your friends also died in trying to get to your corpse, but then usually there was another friend who made it and looted both your corpses so that each of your equipment could live on.
Oh awesome. I just realised that it’s actually unlocking at 11pm in the UK thanks to continental Europe being one hour ahead. Woohoo!
No corpse looting - they wanted hardcore to actually BE hardcore in every way.
You CAN use your shared stash, so it’s a matter of “do I equip this awesome thing, or stow it for later use and not risk losing it”.
EDIT - I just remembered that I also do believe Jay Wilson mentiond that this was one of those issues they were watching closely so if enough people really wanted corpse looting, Blizzard would be willing to put it in at a later date.
Set and legendary items stats are now up for your perusal on the game guide page of the official site.
Awww. :( Damn it. The corpse looting really gave all your characters a sense of continuity. We still did the “offload your other equipment to holder characters” thing, so even though Diablo II didn’t officially have a shared stash, we had that part under control. But obviously, the best equipment is what you should be using for your character at all times, otherwise you might as well be playing softcore.

Oh hey! There is hope then! I’m 90% sure the rest of the hardcore community will agree with me on this issue.

Or they will encourage people go to the auction house and pay to equip the new character.
