Oh my GOD there are a lot of base items. I counted THREE base WHITE 2-handed swords alone just at level 60 (Colossus Blade, Oni Blade, Warlord Blade). This is incredible.

I am not really sure. I am guessing the part I played in beta took 2 to 2.5 hours. IIRC there were 6 way-points so that would be 25 minutes between way-points if it took you 2.5 hours. This does not count the check-points which there were a fair number of. If you can leave the game and come back at a check point, lets say there are at-least an equal number of those, so it would be 12.5 minutes between save spots. This is just a rough guess.
Perhaps someone else can chime in and answer your question.
No RMAH for Hardcore characters at launch, maybe ever - that is also one of those things they’ll only do if people ask for it. There is a gold coin auction house though for hardcore.
I’m concerned about item properties. Put simply, they seem boring.
Sure, +damage and +stats are great and we’ll need them as we progress through the game, but they’re not exciting affixes. During the beta I found the item hunt fairly dull because, well firstly it was a beta, but also because I knew the items were never going to have exciting stats. I’ve always assumed the full game will fix this, but I’m currently worried.
Where are the cool modifiers to skills? Not +damage to skills, which are in the game and boring, but modifiers that increase the size of my slow time bubble, add more magic missiles, allow me to summon more zombie dogs and so forth. These types of modifiers change the gameplay and make the item hunt much more exciting. I’ve always just naturally assumed stuff like that would be there because it seems like such a no brainer.
I hope I’m missing something.
I’ll also add that, like Diablo 2, you aren’t penalized for quitting out and coming back. In fact, when you do that your progress is saved, but the world enemies respawn, so worse case scenario you have to fight your way to where you were, and you’ll just get more item drops and XP along the way. You can definately just play for 10 minutes if you wanted to and still make some progress, even if it’s just getting better gear and leveling up.
Did you get the email over the weekend saying they wouldn’t have enough copies to immediately satisfy all the orders? I did, but mine shipped this afternoon. I was surprised, because I only put the order in on the 8th - perhaps it’s just the orders from the end of last week that might get shafted, or something.
Of course, as it’s coming through the Home Delivery Network, I could just receive several pieces of DVD in a case that looks like it’s been sledgehammered…
That’s exactly what the runes do.
I don’t remember getting any cool modifiers in the first 13 levels of Diablo 2, also all the items on the site says they arent finished and dont show their true stats.
That’s no longer true–they released the updated and “final” (final in the sense that they’ll be that way until the first patch) stats for the items today.

Happy D3 day everyone. 11h 33m 44s
Quite true, and if I had to choose between runes and better skill modifiers, I would absolutely take runes, but I still feel that the currently reveled item affixes (which I’m fairly certain is all of them) are a missed opportunity.
Anyone know if you can use a similar trick like some Steam releases to make it think you are in Europe? i.e. login via a VM from Germany or something and the game will unlock sooner?

You’ll end up on the wrong server and it will screw up the AH by most accounts. They even have a post in the D3 forums about making sure you pick the right region.
Beat you to it by about 10 posts, aeneas.

Just a heads up for those who haven’t installed already. It just took me about three hours of fiddling and redownloading and updating to finally get this installed.
First attempt resulted in the “error 108” that someone mentioned upthread… tome3.mpq was a .part file and I had to redownload that file with the downloader. You have to let the downloader finish on its own, even if it says it’s finished… it will pop up with the install screen when it’s truly complete… eventually.
The second problem was that as soon as I ran the completed installer, it told me that “Diablo III requires a newer operating system”… despite the fact that I am using Windows 7. Turns out that the installer has issues with not having all the service packs installed, and I’m always fearful of service packs (irrational, I know) and hadn’t installed SP1 yet. Installing the SP allowed my install to finally complete.
My copy of Diablo III is finally ready to go!
Any bets on how long it takes for someone to post that they beat the game? A day? Half a day?
Well, considering that my idea of “beating” the game means completing Inferno difficulty, I suspect it will be far longer than that.

I imagine even that will be done within a few days.
Now will anyone beat inferno in HC?
