Wait, I thought hardcore servers didn’t have an auction house. From that server status page, it looks like they do. Or is just no real money AH for hardcore mode?

answered my own question, from the ah faq:

Hardcore Characters
Hardcore characters access an exclusive “Hardcore-only” gold auction house. They do not have access to the normal gold auction house or any real-money auction houses.

argh! Still half an hour before I can start the drive into town to pick up my copy of the game and guide, then the drive HOME so I can install it…

…and then go to bed. Sigh.

Game breaking bug found–avoid this folks!

Dont trade your equipped shield with the templar! the game boots you out and you cant log back until blizzard notices and fixes this issue. Copying this from the EU forums, dont know the issue will surface in the US but better be safe than sorry, wouldnt want anyone elses release day getting ruined

Sounds like one of those Twitter rumors that turns out to be BS. Not saying it is, of course…just, you know, naturally skeptical.

Really, dude? Best games company in the world?

I am not going to beat my head against the post-midnight queue wall. I’m’a go to bed soon. If I wake up in the wee hours I might try logging in, but my kids get up at 6:30 and I am not sick enough to stay home tomorrow, so odds are I will be playing for real tomorrow night. Good luck tonight, intrepid midnight oil burners!

Well, OK…I meant PC game companies.

But who else? Looking Glass and Origin and Black Isle are gone and Bioware has been shitting on itself for awhile now. I guess maybe Valve.

No, Valve is the best, and we must fight to the death in the Thunderdome to settle it.

Who cares if they’re the superlative “best”? No need to be so negative. It was a really nice thing to do. They gave up at least a couple hundred grand in revenues as a throwaway gesture.

Well, OK, but I’m a gamer so I’m a bit doughy. Don’t mind if I wheeze on you.

It was pretty menschy, even if it was just a PR thing.

They don’t need to do PR, they have diablo3. All those people were going to buy it twice. It was a purely benevolent gesture.

As I understand it, they’re really only on the hook for the $10 pre-order people put down to reserve a copy. So really, they probably at least broke even or made money, since I’m sure Blizzard makes quite a bit more on digital copies that they sell than boxes they sell all the way over in Australia after they pay all the middlemen.

None of which changes that it was menschy, and they didn’t have to, so good on em.

That’s a good point re the profit on digital versus physical copies. Sharp.

$10 is a standard pre-order deposit here on Australia.

I do wonder how many people would have actually pre-ordered from GAME, though. I’ve seen them charge as much as $120 for a new release console title. Really. JB Hifi in Hobart did a launch price of $69 (sold out before 3 PM) and I would think GAME were probably selling it for more like $100. Don’t know for sure though, since all the GAMEs around here closed down last year. Lol.

There’s threads in the tech support forum confirming it, so I think it’s the real deal.

Good safety tip then.

(Obligatory: “Thanks Egon.”)

So just got home with my CE, installed it and got the message “Battlenet is down. Please try again later.”

Really Blizzard???

Followup: a blue name just posted about the shield swap issue. It’s for real.

We’re aware of this issue and working to resolve it as quickly as possible. Thank you all for your reports!

It’s also been added to the official bug list page (check under followers).

You’re an hour early, bro.
