Honestly, Blizzard has no reason to fix the day 1 queues. It gets them in the news (the Guardian had a story on it on their homepage tihis morning), it all goes away by the next day when everyone starts playing the game and really, is anyone not going to buy Diablo IV because of this? It doesn’t hurt Blizzard. And by now it’s pretty much expected.
That said it’s a shame Blizzard polish doesn’t extend to their error screens. A queue system or some feedback beyond a number coded error message would not haven been difficult and would have been appreciated.
I really wanted to call out from work today. Damn my responsibilities!
This is something I really don’t understand. If their nearly eight year old game has queue screens, why can’t Diablo 3?
Of course, this morning at 7AM (EST) I was able to log-in with no problems and get 30 minutes of Demon Hunting in.

I got past the skeleton king. I do have a UI question. Is there a way to prevent the giant lore window popping up each time you click on some lore information? I have the audio for it, I do not need the text version taking up half my screen.
There must be, as I haven’t been getting a text window when I’ve clicked the lore button. Don’t know what the setting is though.

Hmm. I’ve never seen the text version of the lore pop up. Try clicking on the icon with the audio?
Hmm what makes you think the login issues will go away in a day? Seems like it will get worse since tonight there will be even more people trying to login at primetime. The number of people trying to play should gradually increase for the next few days. Unless Blizzard has figured out a solution, it should get worse.
Except it’s Blizzard and they’re pretty quick fixing things like this.
Is there someplace to see all the banner Sigils available, and what you have to do to unlock them?
When I go into the selection screen for Sigils, I see a few rows unlocked by default, then some locked ones with various Achievement requirements (visible by mousing over them), then an unlocked “Greedy Pig” Sigil, then more locked ones. I assume I did something to unlock the pig, but what? Is there any way to see? Also, which Sigil is from the web page promo?
I played about 45 minutes before work this morning. Smooth as butter, no problems.

What has two thumbs and is the biggest dumbass today? THIS guy. Just got an email alert that my Diablo 3 Collector’s Edition is out for delivery.
To my parent’s house. In NJ.
I live in MD.

I envisioned that Farside cartoon “what dogs hear” as I tried explaining to my Mom how she was gonna have to open it up, copy the cd code to an email and send it to me :)

Hello, I’m a newb.
[ol]
[li]Can someone tell me how character customization works in this game? From their (vague) Game Guide it looks as though the only “uniqeness” in your class from others of the same class is your rune choice and items?[/li]
[li]How does the rune system work? Do you acquire the runes when you hit the acquired level or are they drops, and if they are how rare are they?[/li]
[li]Is there a non-spoilery website with character customization info? The Blizzard Game Guide only lists game elements, it doesn’t describe how they work.[/li][/ol]
Like when Diablo 2 launched and was unplayably laggy for a month? ;)

I couldn’t find mine either. I definitely saw a glyph I used on the banner from that web-site and it was locked. I am guessing it was a hoax or something. I just had a random banner.
Just play, the game alerts you when you acquire new skills and runes. There are no permanent customisation options beyond class and gender choice.
Customisation will be limited until you level up more and have more options open. You should enable elective mode and advanced tooltips in the options.
Runes are level locked. Just go nuts with character customization and try everything yourself. You can’t go wrong, the new system is idiot proof (you can respec as much as you want).
You’re aware that was 12 years ago, right? :)

Not just the runes are customizable, the skills are, also. You can only use six at one time. You can change what skills you have in your six key slots on the fly, but there is a 15-second cooldown, so its not practical to do that during combat. Plus, there’s an incentive to keep to the same build. As you slog through a dungeon, you gradually get a buff that increases the amount of magic drops you get from champions and bosses. The buff gets stronger the longer you go without changing your skills. When you redo your skills, that buff automatically disappears. Bottomline is that there’s a ridiculous number of skill/rune combinations you can experiment with.
The skill-lock buff only kicks in at max level, though, so till then go nuts.

Thanks, Elective Mode, I wasn’t aware of it. A good (and somewhat funny) explanation of it.
Assuming you’re not an idiot (you can’t be, since this website doesn’t load in Internet Explorer), you should enable Elective Mode immediately. You’ll have the option to scroll between ability groups when assigning spells and attacks to buttons and hotkeys.
From there, it’s up to you what you do. Will you create a summons-only Witch Doctor? Or a Demon Hunter homage to your Diablo 2 Trap Assassin? The world is now your oyster.
