You saved yourself a lot of potential problems with the digital download version. I’m sure a lot of people had no issues, but it was a nightmare for me to get it installed, and a lot of other people, too.

Of course now everyone gets to share the fun for the foreseeable future as their ability to play their single player game is dependent on Blizzard’s servers being online.

Tell me about the overworld design. Does it ever evolve beyond the distended intestines of the beta? I eventually acclimated to the overworld because there was still room to explore, but I still want later areas to mix up the layouts to the same degree that Diablo 2 did with its desert and jungle environments. What about dungeons? Do we get anything more than the cathedral basement rectangle template?

Don’t spoil any of the later content with location names or anything like that, please. I’m merely interested in the diversity of level geometry.

So, I’ve got the retail box version, anyone else get a quick start guide that is assembled/printed wrong? The cover opens to upside down text. Not a huge deal but amusing, shoddy work.

Yes. I’m in the very first area past the Skeleton King and it’s as wide open as any D2 area ever was. I was very pleasantly surprised, as the linear nature of the beta put me off a bit.

Working in the graphical business I can tell that it happens from time to time to everyone.

I’m watching my box version install right now and my quickstart guide is fine.

Official server status update:

11:30 a.m. PDT- We are in the process of performing an emergency maintenance for Diablo III servers in the Americas to resolve several issues that are currently impacting the game. This maintenance may cause some interruption in communication, ability to log in, use of in-game features, and disconnections. We anticipate all servers will be available for play at approximately 1:30 p.m. PDT. We will provide further updates as necessary. Thank you for your patience.

Maintenance has been extended until approximately 1:30 PDT”

There is a news bit up on the login screen saying the servers are down until 1:30pm PDT (posted at/around 11:30am PDT).

So much for playing over my lunch break!

I’d love one if you have any left. Never got in on the beta and I’m not sure if my PC can run it.

The NA launch is shaping up to be pretty shitty compared to Asia it seems.

For those of you that haven’t started playing the retail version yet, the demo was maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of act 1.

Who could have predicted that this could happen with always-online DRM? I don’t think anyone imagined that this situation could be a possibility!

Arent you all feeling the enhanced experiences this gives you already?

So the servers are coming online just as the east coast is getting out of work?

Nothing to see here.

Who could have imagined that the first few days of an online-based game would be flaky? This has never happened before! Oh wait, this always happens.

Well that was “good” timing, I suppose. We finished up normal right as the servers took a dump. I guess we’ll try Nightmare later tonight or tomorrow. Anyone who’s dealt with Blizzard’s server issues in the past can tell you the 1:30 p.m. ETA is liable to be pushed back a few more times before all is said and done.

I hear you, I’m not surprised or anything, but it’s still their fault for taking what is a single player experience for a lot of people and forcing it into an online-based game. :)

Well fiddle sticks, here I had my head in the clouds thinking today would go off without a hitch but NOOOooooooo I can’t log in to play! I did however have some time this morning to play and everything was great until I had my first lag induced death while playing solo. Lag death while playing by myself, really?
