Yep. Blizzard didn’t program it that way.

Of course not. It wasn’t done for technical reasons.

Technically? No. Blizzard has all sorts of other reasons not to allow it.

Hey, guess what? They have text along with the error messages now. I can die a happy man.

It was checked by default, and I unchecked it in the hopes that would help.

No, RIFT had issues on launch day but not of this scale. It was relatively smooth.

Was able to play with only minor issues an hour after the game launched (5pm in Aus), got my Witch Doctor up to 13. Now all you stupid Americans, and your millions and millions of gaming enthusiasts, had to wake up and ruin everything!

I don’t think you paid much attention to Rift’s launch.

Rift had eight hour queues.

Yep, got to about the same level on my Witch Doctor. I’m going with the 3 poison darts/big bat/poison dogs/sacrifice/mana regen build now. The toads seemed to do more damage than the spiders, but I prefer more range.

It hasn’t even started to get bad, its only 3:20 pm on the west coast of America, they haven’t even tried to log on yet! D:

US players, flipping your region to Europe will allow you to hop in. You’ll have to roll a new character however.

Pretty sure that as a CE preordererer, I paid (and played) plenty. It had queues but they brought new servers online quickly.

The queues said 8 hours but they weren’t actually 8 hours. At worst, they were an hour+ (which is still bad, but manageable).

And queues are infinitely preferable for “cannot log in for 24 hours”.

Edit: Just to mention that queue length was massively variable depending on which server you rolled on, so I may be out in terms of the scale (but that works both ways). In Diablo’s case, there are no individual shards for Blizzard to care about.

Edit the second: Work done. My first successful login of the night! And er, I have to go to bed. Oh well.

Rift had eight hour queues.

See, JM??? See??? See???

(In another thread JM and I were sniping about how much worse this launch was than other major launches; JM cited Rift and SWTOR as relatively smooth and I had no information to the contrary.)

im in

and they have wiped the acheivements (again)

You don’t remember all the downtime in Rift the first week? Don’t make me go google all the threads on the Rift forum about frequent downtime!

Heh, “be gentle,” that’s a good one…

Honestly? No. In doing some googling to check queue sizes, I found a ton of posts about how stable everything was at launch. I will certainly admit that my memories of Rift could be flawed, but a crap launch is not what I remember.

It’s not like we can’t find examples of popular MMOs doing fine at launch. AOC seemed to cope just fine (surprisingly so). And a game far more like Diablo’s instanced setup than a standard MMO, Guild Wars 1, had a superb launch. I appreciate the scale is different but clearly their architecture is rock solid.

Diablo is not an MMO and doesn’t have to suffer the same issues.

Edit Moar: My google search for Rift launch stability
