[QUOTE=blah!;3131441] And what’s the deal with rares dropping that are 10-15 levels below the character you are playing at the time?/QUOTE]

But we all know scaling mobs to match your level is wrong, right? So why would they scale loot to match your level. Get your ass to a higher level area if you want loot to match your level.

I think this is why the Critical Hit passive with axes is so nice, since it affects your AoE abilities as well as your single target damage.

Nice wings

CE wings - very nice :)

I can’t find the CE anywhere for $100 anymore. I was thinking about upgrading it.

Why in the Burning Hells isn’t there a digital CE upgrade for $10-$20.

I am in nightmare, redid my monk build to max dps, generate spirit with a rune, then spam the spell that heal. I am doing well against everithing but mobs with damage auras, like these trees that plant poison cabbage mines. I suppose my build is a paladin that tank using heals, but also kills everything fast. Builds in this game are like classes in other games. It feel like “design you own class”. The AH is very nice for that because let search items with the stats you may need to complete your build.

You still get a ton of crap way below your level.

Nothing like getting Normal and early Nightmare gear in Act 2 Hell.

The Lightning Fists rune or whatever it’s called can screw you over against some mobs that have small AoE. Instead of just attacking at max range you teleport close to their center. It can be annoying, but it’s an interesting little downside to it I suppose.

I love/hate the mobs that control your movement in this game. It’s the only real holdover in ARPGs of the horror tropes that began it in D1, being batted around out of nowhere and enclosed in walls with fire falling everywhere.

I’d forgotten about that; the fear effect made me think of WoW. (as does the increased number of “events.” I like the fear effect (and the idea of a cc resist stat) but I’m happy I haven’t had to man a machine gun or airplane yet :)

How, exactly, am I supposed to do that? I haven’t gone through a single area more than once, I’m progressing in the story exactly like I’m supposed to and the loot is all 10 levels lower than me. By the time I “get my ass to a higher level area” the loot there will suck as well, because I’ll be a higher level than I am now.

No, it’s obviously our fault for playing wrong. We are supposed to find this mythical “higher level area” that all the good stuff is hidden in. Of course, I already know where this higher level area is, it’s called AH. Nothing you will find in game compares to the stuff you can find there.

In Diablo II it always seemed that loot dropped 10 levels below me too. I have many memories of getting nice drops, and then realizing it was for another class and it was way below my level. It seems to me that when you play with a toon you’re collecting gear for the NEXT guy you’re going to play.

Perhaps it’s not intended to be finding max level loot. My take was that it was balanced for using loot a few levels below the required level to use it. I mean I have some gear 15 levels below me that kicks ass still, it’s not like an MMO where an item with a particular level has X amount of stat points allocated to it and is thus always superior. It just has the chance to be superior.

Sometimes shit gear drops, but don’t get hung up on the level requirement.

This my biggest gripe with the game to date - it’s so easy to level up (at 55 right now, for example) and log out, go to the AH and set the max buyout for 20k and see what comes up. Garanteed you’ll find stuff way better than what you are using.

That’s especially annoying when Hell difficulties demand those upgrades, so if you aren’t finding drops it’s either grind earlier levels (not a huge deal, I suppose, that’s the purpose of the game after all) and get lucky or spend some gold on the AH.

That being said, I am still finding between 1-3 pieces of gear in the field that is better than what I’m currently using actually, I noticed that three times out of three play sessions taking my Wizard from 53 to 55 last night, and I’m actually okay with the combination of AH and finding stuff, as long as I’m finding stuff that I can use at least once in awhile.

On the subject of Loot, I definitely will agree that it is borked in general. Crafting is a total bust. Many times I have crafted 10 or 20 items to get something approximating what I want. Even then I may end up not getting anything useful.

In my latest run, it cost like 3200 per attempt (not including materials). Even after 10 tries that is 32,000 gold out the window. I probably could have gotten a very good item for less than that price on the AH. There is no good reason to even bother with crafting when you have the AH.

I think a fix to the system is that you could pick half of the random modifiers. This way you can guarantee at least a few things about the loot you generate.

Agreed DeepT - I forgot to mention that I was bummed to discover crafting is silly now with the AH in full swing. I wanted to craft some armor this morning and after dropping 5k on enough materials to get 4 attemps, at 12,000g per attempt, I ended up with nothing worth talking about. That 50k could have gotten me a very nice chest armor of the same exact type I would bet.

Crafting needs a little work to make it useful pre-level 60. I see in the strategy guide that there are recipes (rare) for every item type at level 60/level 10 blacksmith which will be a fun post-game money sink, but for now (getting to level 60) and probably beyond, it’s not really worth the effort.

SUPER SAD

My account got hacked sometime in the last 8 hours, I logged on today and all my loot was gone from my stash, all my money, health potions, rares, surprisingly they left my armor on my character. Probably lost 200k worth of goods/gold. :(

I have the Mobile phone authenticator, and a 16 digit/character random password that is pure gibberish. So its really crazy they got past all that security.

I’ve never had my account hacked before, do I have to notify Blizzard?
So far I have reset my password.

Yeah, I’ve completely stopped crafting weapons/armor because you can easily buy the exact piece of gear you want off the AH for under 20k. In fact, every piece of loot I’m wearing now came from the AH for under 20k. It’s ridiculous.

And lordkosc, definitely contact Blizzard as I’m sure they’ll help you get your stuff back.

I agree on the crafting, but I find it’s been pretty successful for me as long as I stick to making weapons. In terms of the armor, it helps a little that I have a stable of alts, but it really does bug me how many tries it takes (at very high material/gold costs) to get something even remotely decent. This is crafting, after all, I feel like we should have some sort of control over what we’re getting.

Yes, use battlenet and report it immediatly! Damn - sorry to hear that, especially since you have an authenticator.
