So does anyone have a better Barb build at level 45?
Here is mine: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#beXViT!VWg!aZYaab
As a note, my friend has said it comes across to him not as a polished version of Diablo 2, but as a polished version of Titan Quest - it’s far more heavily story-based and streamlined along “themed” grounds.
Is that a fair comment?
Nah, I wouldn’t say it’s more like TQ than D2.
TQ had bad story presentation and was set in a much more “real/historical” atmosphere.
Diablo 3 is much more like Diablo 2 - with a hybrid Gothic/High Fantasy atmosphere - where the original Diablo was pure Gothic. I think D2 was pretty Gothic, but some people seem to think it’s too cartoonish. Ultimately, I prefer the original Diablo for the atmosphere.
It does feel less random than D2 - and I think that’s only good for the first playthrough.
TQ can’t touch D3 in terms of moment-to-moment gameplay, though. But I’d say I like the loot design of TQ much better.
For a strictly short-term experience, D3 wins overall.
D2 wins for long-term play.
Hellgate wins in terms of mechanics.
TQ competes well with D3 in terms of visual quality, where D3 has more style - and TQ has amazing textures.

I have found for late nightmare early hell the following works for me:
Primary: cleave with extra damage
Secondary: leap with armor
Wrath of zerker extra damage
Ignore pain with vampire
Revenge
Armor shout with life increase
Weapon master
Full fury extra damage
Ruthless
Currently stacking strength/vit, life on hit/vampire
The ability to leap, ignore, leap is a great surv buff, wrath is the best long cool down IMO because of cc immunity.
In general the fury depleting attacks are garbage and not worth giving up the damage buff.

Diablo being in Diablo 3 is a spoiler? Or are you talking about a different picture?
I hope you won’t be devastated to learn that Max Payne 3 has Max Payne in it.

Well ladi-da… - Sorry for being dumb then. Since he was dead I guess I didn’t think he was in the game.
Nevermind then - carry on and thanks for the non-condescending tone.
To be fair, he did die for real die-die in D2. D1 made it pretty clear that some part of him persisted. Learning he shows up in D3 is sort of a surprise for me, too.
And if I just spoilered 12+ year old games for anyone, my bad :(
Lol, no, it’s not sad, Sean. You are just that kind of gamer that gets bored after finishing Diablo on Normal. Me too, actually.
People are trying to pull various theories out of their asses about “long term appeal” and “moment to moment gameplay” when the reality is that most people will stop playing it after finishing it on Normal and fooling around a bit with other stuff, just like with Diablo 2. Sure, there were and will be thousands and thousands of people who do enjoy this kind of games year after year but majority will move on rather quickly.
So yeah, Sean, it’s perfectly fine. You played a game for what, 20-30 hours, you’ve had your share of fun, you’ve seen all the story, zones, characters, etc. It’s perfectly natural to switch to another game at this point.
Just like with Diablo 2.
Currently using this build: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#beXYgh!YXd!ZbZbaa for my monk who is 54 and early act 2 hell.
The third passive, the 15% dodge, I am considering switching out for the one with everything (max resist = all resist) one. Its pretty survivable so far.
Any advice on how to improve it? I am currently (still) dual wielding.
25k hp unbuffed / 3300 atk unbuffed.
Yeah, Sean. I did the same in Diablo II. I just started Nightmare which I never did in Diablo II and I am surprisingly still enjoying it. I fully expected to finish on normal and be done as well. I think sometimes, you are just ripe for a certain type of game and if that type of game shows up, you may play it for longer than you might have otherwise.

That being so, it’s all the more of a shame how easy Normal difficulty is in D3. You can basically beat Act 4 Normal without breaking a sweat, which was not the case in D2.

really??? diablo in d3 a spoiler?? lol I didn’t read anything up to the release, nor any of the storyboards.
And when he (SPOILER) showed up - It wasn’t a shocker at all.
If you’re concerned about spoilers… I would suggest only reading the non-spoiler thread.
while you’re at it turn off friend achievement spam in game, that will spoil you too.

yes lol indeed. Thanks for the story, though!
Ok I am in the correct thread this time!
Well until they get the web based character viewer working, I present to you MuffinStomp, my level 46 Barbarian! In stylish smoke grey armor.

I was pretty excited to see the elephant head shoulder armor. :)
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe the greater evils can be killed in the literal sense; only driven back to their realm (banished). My Diablo lore isn’t so good, but isn’t that the whole reason behind sealing them into those stones or whatever so they don’t ever have to worry about them coming back to Sanctuary? I know there was something about that in Diablo 2 and certainly in Diablo 3.

So you like the sword and board mode opposed to dual wield or 2h? I tried one of the higher armor shields I found on once and it only increased my damage reduction by about 8% vs 15% loss in DPS. It didn’t seem like a good trade to me.

Yes, that’s correct, it’s why I don’t understand how the titular figure being present is a spoiler.
Razgon

Well, since they harp on and on about how Diablo died, I guess because the story kinda surprises you it about, its a spoiler?

My account was hacked last night, all my equipment and gold stolen. I submitted a ticket to have my char rolled back, but it’s been 12 hours with no response. That’s a long time when you’re itching to play.
I did have sloppy security, my password was one I’d used a bunch of places. I’ve since signed up for the authenticator app, you probably should too.

Yeah it’s interesting the way the die hard are burning this argument from both ends. You don’t like this part?..you haven’t played enough! You don’t like this part?..you’ve played too much!
Is Diablo 3 the Three Little Bears of gaming?
That’s been my issue with it so far, but when you bring this up you get the “you haven’t played enough” and the “game starts on Nightmare” crowd telling you your basically stupid for wanting Normal to not be faceroll.
I just finished Normal, and it annoys the hell out of me that I had to slog through 20+ hours of brain dead combat to get to the part where I actually have to think about what I’m doing. It would have been a much better experience had I got to see everything for the first time on a difficultly that made the combat interesting. I don’t remember D2 being this easy, Normal should have been labeled Easy and they should have started you on Nightmare.
