I lean toward the side of terrible, given the amount of experience they have with WoW. I find it frustrating that the AH could be so feature-starved and clunky, even at launch, because they’ve been doing this for years on WoW.

People like to complain about the AH being separate from in-game, but if you think about them wanting to thwart any and all possibilities of duping items, I think it makes sense to have the AH not be accessible from the in-game interface. Allowing manipulation and access of your inventory and stash while posting, selling, and receiving items seems like a security compromise they were not willing to deal with.
I feel like Nightmare is where the mobs start to get fun. I’m still beating them down, but when you get a boss that’s Plagued + Jailer or Molten+Fast or Fire Chains + Arcane Enchanted, it’s a lot more exciting.
I keep my Monk’s gear reasonably updated via the Auction House, and on Nightmare Act 2 I’m still killing stuff, but I have had to do some insane kiting now and then, and it does get interesting more often.
I don’t see why it would make any difference. It’s not like you “cross server boundaries” or anything. The auctionhouse would only be in town.
The biggest problem with the game requiring you to quit to hit the AH, obviously, is that it resets the nehalem valor buff.
Well, it might have, but I doubt it.
I don’t think there’s any logical argument against the fact that “shallow” replayability (i.e. That was kind of fun as a sorceress through normal, I wonder what happens if I decide to go electric instead of fire… let’s try that) suffers under the D3 model more than the D2 model. IIRC in D2 you got to your penultimate skill at about level 30 or so (it wasn’t necessarily as strong as it could be, but you could use it!). When does that happen in D3, (taking into account just skills and runes, since runes can change skills substantially) 54…?
The argument about which method has more replayability can come down on either side, but it’s decidedly different between D2 and D3. As someone who never really went through normal/nightmare/hell in D2, but enjoyed building characters that were different through normal and on into early nightmare (before I inevitably got bored and tried something else) D3’s “This character will always have these abilities at this level” thing is actually a limitation. Sure, I don’t need to rebuild a character to play a different build, but at the same point there is no different build to keep a similar flavor but play differently. Chances are by the time I’ve given up on a character halfway through nightmare or so, I’ve already tried the variants available. It’s not like I can extract that extra bit of fun from going back to Blood Raven and seeing how that fight differs as a curse-heavy necromancer vs. a minion heavy necromancer.
It’s tiresome to pretend that D3 is inherently “better”. It’s different. There are pluses and minuses, but well apart from “I can’t build my character any longer” there are, honest to goodness, things that are lost in the “cookie-cutter” leveling formula of D3. I’m not sure what is gained is all that much better; I guess it depends on whether you prefer to play shallowly and serially (like I did with D2) or “in depth” (which D3 is inevitably better set up for).

They could just not allow you to manipulate your inventory while you are using the AH. Exactly like they do when you are identifying an item.
I bid on an Amulet that was 5 levels above my character level, I did win, but the 2 day wait was torturous, as I needed it 6 hours before the auction was over.

I bid on stuff all the time. Basically I just keep scrolling through the list until I see an item that has less than 30 minutes left. If it’s something I need and the price is low enough I’ll place the bid. You’d be surprised how many really good items slip through the cracks due to the absurd fact that you can’t sort items by time left.

Yeah they really need that feature. It’s like 48 hours? 48 HOURS? Not only will I have outleveled it or got something better by then, I might have quit the game by then.
Yes, but most of the people who use the AH in WoW a lot don’t use Blizzard’s UI.

Grrr. I’m liking this Smoke Screen nerf less and less, it really messes with how the DH flows on higher difficulty. If the problem was it was too long when used in conjunction with Prep, I wish they would have just changed Prep to trigger a cooldown on Smoke Screen. Alternatively, they could have removed the +1s rune and replaced it with something else. A one second duration is just too short.
You can’t sort by when an auction ends, you can’t vary the length of auction, you can’t preview how items appear on your character, etc. despite the fact that these features and others have been in WoW for years. I appreciate they are doing some new things, but this feels like a step back thus far. That’s all.
Wondering if anyone can answer this for me. I have a level 29 WD with the Templar as a follower. I haven’t found a single Templar Relic even though I’ve had him the entire game so far (he’s also level 29). I’ve found plenty of enchantress focuses and scoundrel tokens so I know they exist for the other followers. Is this just a coincidence (i.e. bad luck with drops) or is there a known glitch out there?
Sorry, considering that he’s the title character, his face is on the box, the launcher, the loading screen, the ads on almost every website on the internet, and he is prominently featured as being clearly alive and angry in the commercials and flash ads, I didn’t think the fact that he appears in the game was a spoiler.

Sounds like bad luck. I’ve had plenty of Templar relics drop for my level 33 Monk.
Yes, the auction UI in diablo 3 is just plain horrible.
Why can’t i search for gems without specifying a specific count?
Why can’t i sort by bid? Why can’t i search for min buyout? If an item is sold, why even show it on my search you bastards!?
Equisilus: it is just a coincidence. My wizard got mostly templar relics. My Witch Doctor is getting mostly scoundrel special items. The general rule is that the game detects which follower you use the most, and then doesn’t drop items for them.
Okay then. I’ll not worry about it and just keep moving on. Thanks for the tip.

Anyone tried running on the latest MacBook Air? Based on other forums it’s doable but not great.
That’s one thing I find very useful. It is nice to know items are actually being purchased at a given price.
I played a bit more last night with 3 other guildmates - lot’s of fun - they were lvl 50+ and basically did a speedrun through Nightmare to the end. A good beer and pretzels game for the odd bash I am thinking. Strangely I can’t stop playing World of Tanks and that is very repetitive. ;)
