I’m playing a Monk in Inferno (granted, only Act I) and am playing a pretty tanky build but I’ve never seen this. That said, when I see a molten - mortar - horde - invulnerable minions mob, I usually go somewhere else, rather than die 20 times trying to take it out

So I get one small window to play Diablo III today before my daughters soccer cup starts, and they boot me out to restart the servers. On a Saturday morning. Good plan, Blizzard. Keep it classy.

You know Blizzard is pulling some really stupid shit when BleedTheFreak is airing complaints. :)

Annoying as that is, if they are like WoW restarts they only take ~15min. Assuming things go as planned, which has been a bit rough for Blizz so…

Inferno Butcher can eat a dick.

I can beat the hell out of him until the last 10-20% then you just die. I could respec to kill him, but I’d rather not throw away my 5 stack of NV because he’s stupid. What a pain in the ass.

Level 45 monk just found his first legendary drop: Hammer Jammers. (These pants can’t be touched.)

Level 41 pants and are heads and shoulders above anything else I had or have seen up to this point. Double socket, good stats for dex, vitality, and intelligence, 6% increased speed, and more gold. Haven’t looked on the auction house but I’m sure that a wizard would pay quite a bit for them.

There are two things that can be achieved by using some runes, but could also be achieved by gear. One thing is walking speed, I think theres boots with +walking speed (I could be wrong), the other is spirit generation. My longterm plan is (other than create a pool of massive resistences) is to stack a lot of soul generation and a pair of good boots. Currently I can play two hours and make 100K, and the stuff I want is probably more expensive.

Hammer Jammers have held their value better than a lot of the legendaries have. Others have crashed precipitously as more people have lvelled up (e.g. Swamp land waders or Kill). You could sell them close to 100k if you timed it right (price on these has actually gone back up, maybe because people have more money). You could conceivably get more, but it would take someone looking for a specific set of stats and my feeling is that happens less on the normal ah than on the HCAH with the legendaries.

To give an example, I sold an Ageless Might for 400k just over a week ago. Now there are 50 listed for less money than that, starting at 65k.

It’s amazing to me how wildly people overestimate the value of the legendary and set items they find. I have a pair of pants I’ve been trying to move for 3 days now at 2 mil (cut down 20% from the first time they failed to sell), and I see pages of strictly inferior ones listed at more than 10 times my buyout. Good luck with that, dudes…

Act 2 is going to eat you alive ;)

If I attack 1.4x per second, I generate 1.4x6= 8.4 spirit per second.

If I attack 1.6x per second, I generate 9.6 spirit per second.

Attack speed > spirit generation on gear. Gear + Passive is going to give you like 4 Spirit/second when you’re not attacking… in the times that matter, this is not going to save your life, so just get attack speed and increase your DPS as a priority over spirit generation.

Or just gear and play your character however you want, because I think ultimately you’re going to come out about the same in effectiveness, which is what I think Blizzard’s goal is. Once you start looking at the numbers you realize how far Blizzard has gone to make as many things as possible equally effective.

Well I wont be going there for a long time. It was just annoying to roflstomp the Halls and then get to the Butcher and get cockblocked by a silly mechanic. I mean I can take basically no damage the whole fight, but it doesn’t matter because he plays the “FIRE EVERYWHERE” card and then runs around so I can’t kill him until the fire finally kills me.

And to an extent I’ll disagree on Spirit Gen. The class is fubar without some sort of spirit generation. Fighting elite packs in inferno and later hell is nigh impossible at times without it. That said Move Speed is probably even more important since without it you’re basically doomed.

I agree with that to an extent. I will say, though, that several of the items that you might not consider using have some value when playing hardcore. For instance, my barbarian is wearing slave bonds (for movement speed bonus and huge life gain after kills), Kotuur’s Brace (increased block chance), and Denial (no real reason other than I got one at a decent price, but the damage reduction is nice).

Attack speed is also better due to life on hit proccing more often.

Anyone else feel like all those exploits that blizzard has fixed have completely ruined the economy?

It’s like to progress through/beyond act 1 inferno I need act 2-4 inferno gear, but I can’t even afford it atm. The richest people got there with early game exploits and things that were patched out (the easiest resplendent chests etc.). Now, act 1 inferno gear is pretty much worthless so farming that is a) not profitable and b) not enough to actually pass to act 2.

Really hoping for some ladder resets down the road when classes are more balanced and exploits are fixed. That’s not to say I would not have used the overpowered skills and chest farming methods myself, but the economy atm is ludicrous.

I realize that goods will become cheaper as more and more people somehow reach act 3-4 and items start becoming cheaper. The end-scenario is probably that all non-perfect items will be nearly worthless (due to no bind on equip and massive influx by many people farming) and items with all the right stats (and nearly perfect values) will be unaffordable to most people.

A 30 minute Butcher run nets me around 100k gold and 10+ rare items with usually at least 1 of those being worth 25k-100k on the AH. I’ve also found 4 legendary items in the past 3-4 days that went for around 100k each. So, I don’t necessarily agree that it isn’t worth farming.

That said, I’m not really touching Act II or really gearing up for it because I think a nerf is coming anyway, precisely because of what razarok points out with Act I loot not being good enough and otherwise being too expensive on the AH. We’re talking about around at least 1 million gold PER slot to gear up for Act II.

Act1 gear is perfectly fine for getting through Act1.

Might want to grab a cheap blue weapon off the AH to help things along, but otherwise you shouldn’t have many issues. Its all about getting a 5 stack of NV going and then killing a boss.

I do agree on the economy being pretty borked though. Some of the prices are just silly.

Note that if you’re playing solo the pack will reset when you die, resetting the enrage timer. I never saw the enrage timer myself unless I was grouped with other people, so it could be that the timer is only active in groups? I’m not really curious enough to test this theory.

No it’s there solo as well. I got killed by it a few times all by myself - well not counting the follower.

It’s just a really high damage over time effect, which affects you the moment you get into the awareness range of the thing you just died a few times to.

Inferno, especially early on, is all about picking your battles. Once you get over the gear hump you can handle most things, but theres still things you’ll probably never fight (Shielded, Molten, Extra Health, Arcane Undying dudes? Fuck that noise).

And the enrage can happen solo. I had it happen the other night for some strange reason on a pack I hadn’t been even fighting. Apparently they somehow aggro’d but didn’t engage forever. When the elite rolled around the corner with his buddies there was a skull and crossbones over his head.

My last 10 or so 5/5 NV butcher kills have all resulted in only lvl 55- 58ish rares, and with worthless stats at that. Unless I am grossly mistakes about what items are actually valuable, I at least think, that I have found nothing with a worth above 10-50k (once!) in all of those runs.

What am I looking for?

  • resist all + primary stat
  • high dps + attack speed and/or crit chance/crit dmg
