Nether Tentacles seems to deal more damage than Ball Lightning, regardless of what the tool tip indicates, which is why people mostly switch to it. The life steal is a nice to have, but not really the reason to use it since by the time you get NT you’re basically at Inferno, and dealing with the massive penalty to lifesteal.

In regards to how to use the chain slows, it’s basically one tap of chains, one or two taps of elemental, then regain distance. It’s great at lower difficulties. By Inferno it’s not as great, but at the same time I almost never need to use my hatred builder for actual hatred building.

My build. Created to farm act1 inferno in groups. Is fun to me.

I’d buy a Vita just to play D3 if the rumor were true.

Yes, and being wrong three games running doesn’t make it good design.

Interesting, I gave up on Elemental Arrow long ago. Need to give Ball Lightning another try.

So have they scheduled to be down all day tomorrow yet?

BL was my go to hatred skill until 60 pretty much. Good damage, large AoE and cheap cost. The rest of my skills were discipline based or free to cast like Rain of Vengeance.

This is a good video illustrating why smokescreen is a must have for a DH in inferno, even if you’re really on your game with the roll. It’s also nice to have for things like jailer/mortar combos, since you can’t roll out of jailing.

Yeah I made the transition to SS after I figured out it could break CC. It makes me a little sad though as I find Vault the more fun skill to use.

Every class seems to have this issue really. When you get to late Hell/Inferno you simply can’t play without some sort of root break imo. Otherwise Jailer + anything is basically instant death.

I preferred vault myself, but SS became the only way to really survive in Hell. Otherwise you just get Jailed/Vortexed into shit and die instantly. I’d like to see more root breaking abilities for all the classes so you have an option. As it is right now I think every class has like one, so you generally take it or die a whole fucking lot.

Does teleport break root? I can’t think of one for the Wizard. I normally use Diamond Skin, but I’m only in Hell.

If level 60 gear were dropping all of the time I imagine that one of the core design goals of the game would disappear - that is, seeing good gear drop only rarely and really great gear drop extremely rarely. It is a primary driver of why folks play this game on such a long-term basis. If good/great level 60 gear was dropping like rain the satisfaction of finding a rare with nice affixes goes down pretty fast.

If you are only playing through the game once or twice, yes, this game design is not great.

The difference to me, and this is all just personal opinion, is that in Diablo 2 I felt like I frequently found useful gear, I found great gear rarely, and stupendously awesome gear once in a blue moon. In Diablo 3 I sift through mountains of trash to find the rare usable item. I’ve sunk about 100 hours into the game and have yet to find an item (other than the AH) where my reaction was “Whoa, awesome find!”.

That’s a good observation; the bounds on how good or bad the loot can be compared to your level seems really tight this time.

Teleport and Mirror Image both break root.

Really? My experience is the complete opposite. Just yesterday my Barbarian in Act 1 Inferno found a 660 DPS two-handed Axe. My previous weapon was at 480 DPS. To me that’s a “woah, awesome” moment as my DPS goes way, way up.

The day before that he found a rare Wizard hat with 51 resist all, a huge amount of +intelligence and life regen on it (among other useful mods). Another “woah” moment.

The day before that he found a ring with 6-12 damage and +14% increased attack speed on it, which my Demon Hunter greatly appreciated.

But then I’m not spoiled by the Auction House, so perhaps those are “meh” drops for those who are.

For AH level loot, a 660 dps 2 hander for level 60 is basically unsellably bad. I’d say entry level 2 handers for 60 start around 850 dps.

Meh. I think I will start a HC char on the side to see what that experience is like with that economy.

Probably a Wizard because I’m comfortable playing them.

I’m not even sure how to approach this post as it doesn’t seem to be addressing anything I’ve said.

Then enlighten me as to what you are getting at. You mentioned that you are seeing lower level items in Inferno, are not happy with it, and implied it is not good design.

I noted that this is what Diablo games have always done and that it is actually a fairly prominent part of the game design.

Not trying to be snarky, but what other point are you trying to make that I seem to be missing?
